Bump. I found this post very fascinating, there is a green maderia! Has anyone else grown one?

I bought some cuttings but they didn't root for me. Disappointing! 

I would have liked to have purchased some from Tam to try but never received a response.

I am growing this variety and got a couple fruits last year.  They were very good for a young tree but not great (yet).  It definitely has a lot of potential and look forward to what it does last year.  I traded or gifted a couple airlayers last year to some local fig friends.  I hesitate to use for the forum for marketing but since folks on this thread are asking... I am coincidentally planning to offer some cuttings soon on ebay and a couple rooted cuttings later in the Spring.

I did tried to contact Tam via pm and email, no response yet.


I have black madeira and it taste excellent.  the only problem is the fruit tends to split during the rainy season BUT still an excellent taste to me. Tam's White madeira look very attractive and I guest it has the same quality with black madeira or better.

It would be nice if this was the same as Bacorinho as i have a rooted cutting and a graft of this old variety.

Nevertheless, although the color of the pulps are similar it seems the neck is different (smaller on Bacorinho)

Those Bacorinho figs look delicious. So even if it's not the same, I imagine it would likely taste just as flavorful based on the deep red pulp.

Bumping this thread to see how the few "White Madeira #1" cuttings that Tam distributed have fared... and whether it should be on my wish list or not ;-)

White Madeira #1 is an excellent green fig with red pulp.  As far as I know I am the only one fortunate enough to have gotten it from Tam but it's possible there are others.  I planted the mother tree (now in its 4th season) in the ground this past Spring.  It is a healthy tree with no fmv symptoms but is a moderately slow grower.  I can't say yet how it compares to other green figs with red pulp but I am comparing it to Adriatic JH, Battaglia Green, Rockaway Green and several others in that class.  In addition to flavor I will be looking at cold hardiness, ripening time, vigor, productivity etc.

I was fortunate to acquire one of these from a very generous forum member. The plant is doing very nicely and has a beautiful growth habit with luxurious leaves that respond well to Alaska fish emulsion and plenty of strong sunshine. Since it is still only about 15" tall and I am rapidly approaching the end of the active growth season in Putnam, NY, I would imagine that I am at least a year away from forming even a preliminary opinion on the figs fruit. that said, it is really a nice looking plant!

I still picked more nice fruits of this fig last week, seems to be a ever-bearing type fig once it starts ripening fruit. Very nice flavor for me even in cooler weather.
