White Marseille a much underrated fig

This fig isn't regarded as special. It doesn't have an exotic flavour, but if you like your figs sweet juicy and plentiful it does the business.
It's great for pot culture carries a good breba and main crop and fruits early.
I think of it as my reliable workhorse fig.
See what you think of two picked today.

Well looks very good as well I bet the taste is very good too
Your figs look different than USA strain. More color inside and juicy. Here they are good : more white pulp & moist thick pulp. Is your pollenated by the wasp ? Curious about what others think.

No wasp, UK only 2/3 heatzone. I do grow in a greenhouse which increases my heatzone considerably.

Very impressive. Looks so good.

Thanks figpig_66, my current tree is a descendant of a mother tree I grew in ground thirty years ago and it has served me well.

My largest fig tree has been potentially identified as white marseilles. I bought it from someone who has been growing figs in town for a while, he didnt know the proper name. I only had the budget to buy one plant from him so i asked what the best fig was in his opinion, he told me this was the sweetest one that he had so i grabbed it.... ive learned that i dont so much care for super sweetness, as i do care for more flavor... this fig is kind of like putting some honey or sugar in your mouth, not much more than that.  i have to say im not a huge fan but my wife enjoys them. The plant produces a lot and grows quite vigorously and its air layered well!

if anyone in SW ontario wants cuttings of this fig let me know and we can work something out

Hi,
Those figs look small. Are they really that small ?

Theyre not a small fig, here are photos of mine in this topic

Looks like a nicy tasty fig.

Do you have a leaf photo?

You are observant jdsfrance, the figs in my pictures were relatively small.
They just happened to be the ripest on the day I posted. I can confirm that they are normally larger and I do have some larger ones.
However there is a reason why mine are on the smaller side this year.
They are pot grown and this year I experimented with a less frequent watering regime.
I think I overdid it on the less frequent.
The result was the smaller size, but on the plus side it has really concentrated the sugars.

Sorry, my first time commenting on a post. And I know this post is old but I want to chime in. The White Marseilles, was supposedly a favorite fig of one of our Presidents: Thomas Jefferson. He loved this fig so much that he brought it back with him to the U.S. from France. And this is how we have this tree available in the U.S. today. Maybe he isn't the first one to bring the White Marseilles but, if you look at travel to and from Europe during the birth of our country you will remember that any trips to or from were by boat and would take several months. So he probably had a healthy tree growing on his way back home.
