Will Donate $100.00 to the forum

Hello Everyone,

New member, first post. Looking to donate 100 dollars to the Figs for Fun foundation.
I do seek your help as fall is quick approaching, I would like to purchase
good quality (ie, high chance of rooting, from old tree) cuttings from a reputable source this early fall of the
following variety:

Black Madiera
Col de Dame (grise, noire, blanc)
Celeste

Can you guys please direct me to a reputable seller known to in fact be capable of supplying the above
variety.

I am located in Montreal, Canada. These trees will be grown in a controlled environment.

Also, I am interested in finding out what other varieties are sought after by the experts? I understand
that it has to do with climate and yield etc... But is there anything that's getting the connoisseur excited.

Thanks in Advance,

Terrance.

Welcome to the forum, Terrence, and that's a very generous offer.  This forum and the F4F Foundation (where you can donate) are both run by Jon at Encanto Farms.  He has a HUGE collection of fig trees and does offer cuttings for sale.  There are also many generous members here who I'm sure would be happy to sell you cuttings at a reasonable price, if not give them to you for free, and many more also offer their cuttings for sale on eBay.  Unfortunately, my BM and CdDB are both too small to take cuttings yet.

Thank you for your reply Figaro,

What I plan to do with them is keep them indoors for 2-3 years, lots of sun, controlled hibernation etc...
Taking it out during dry hot weeks. I have done this with cuttings I brought back from Turkey and it just keeps
getting stronger and stronger (ie, more resilient to cold snaps). Pumping it with good soil and food.

My approach is to locate a good source for the variety mentioned above, and not get ripped off. If they can donate
them, I would take very good care of them bring them up to strong trees, and make sure to give back to community.

Figaro you are such a gentleman! Please don't cut them!

Terrance.

Hi Terrance , you can also try http://brugmansia-quebec.com Danny seems like a nice guy and will answer all your questions...they have a very nice selection of trees at very reasonable prices....and they are not too far from you...

Hello Everyone,

I am still looking for these cuttings. Got approached but some that were selling different varieties but not what I am looking for.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Terrance

Are these really that hard to locate?

Terrance

Terrance did you look on ebay?

Hello Dave,

I would rather a reputable source member from the community. Hence the donation...
Is it really that difficult of a variety to locate from reputable sources without paying a huge
deal and never be 100% sure?

Thanks in Advance,

T

I would really love to locate these. Grow them into strong trees and pay it forward someday in
the future.

T

Terrance, did you try the sites suggested in posts 5 and 6?  The biggest difficulty in getting these figs will be that many growers in the USA won't ship over the border due to restrictions.  Having said that, Celeste should be very easy to find.  The others may take a bit more hunting.

Hello Greg,

Thanks for your response. They did not have the varieties I was looking for. I am based out of Canada, not sure if the import laws are just
as stringent here?

T

I sent a bag of dry fig leaves into Canada, no problem.  Not sure how cuttings would go.

Hello Everyone,

I have still not been able to locate the following varieties?

Black Madiera
Col de Dame (grise, noire, blanc)
Celeste

I really would appreciate your help in locating cutting for viable source for those
varieties.

Kind Regards,

Terrance

Wrong time of year. Wait until winter

Hi Terrancedevor,
I hope that you realize that Black Madeira and all cdd are scarce. You won't find them easily - and BM is a sloooooow growing tree.
Celeste should be easy to get in your corner of the world. Try to ping directly a member in Louisiana or lurk in your local nurseries.
Fig trees are currently producing their main crops and those are the best tasting figs ... So people might want to harvest the figs first prior to take cuttings.

Because borders do matter when sending live plants from country to country, in Canada, you have two nurseries (at leat LOL) operating through www , and I would contact them.
http://brugmansia-quebec.com/Catalog.html
and
http://www.adrianosfigtrees.com/varieties.html      - I checked, and he sells all 3 cdd and celeste. Even if you need to pre-order them - still worth the try.
Good luck !
