This is the worst year ever for my figs, i am a victim of a sorcery? Ahaha!!!

Almost all my cuttings are died after rooting, without apparent reason, some have never rooted, and do not know how get them back, at least those that i wanted so much.

The last decent rain fell in October of 2015 , and the summer has not even started (we have
30-35°C every day), the plants planted this year are in poor condition, although irrigated frequently.

Regarding fruits i'm feeding fly larvae:

I feel for you when your cuttings die. Many of us have been there.  As far as feeding fly larva the dry conditions might the flies desperate to find a place to lay their eggs.  you may have to wrap the tree in cheese cloth to block out the flies  or place bait (Figs) with tangle foot stuff to trap the flies or both.

Fico hi,

Due to various issues I am not having a best year also but my father in law buys so many figs for saturday that it makes up
For the loss.
Fruit fly is a big problem here too. Either use baits or a net.

Btw which cuttings were lost?

Thanks Eaglet. I fear that a net is insufficient, it could not stop the ants, that gnaw the skin and enter in the ostiole.

Thanks Eli, not often found figs for sale here, and i honestly would not buy a flavorless fig from market.

The strange thing is that fruits on abandoned trees seem fine.

Regarding cuttings i lost Col de dame noir and gris, palmata and some other; i managed to graft the remains of some cuttings, but bud grafts
do not seem to work (maybe tissues were damaged).



I will not discourage, i hope that it will get better in the future.

Hi Fico
Is the lungo portugallo the dark fig on the bottom? Where are you located?

We have fruit fly larva problem with sweet cherries. 
Without spraying chemicals they are tough to control.  Some try hanging red sticky balls on the tree that the fly will be attracted to and stick.

Hi Pino, is the dark on the bottom. Brebas are almost identical to those of Melanzana (Melanzana from central Italy), except for the interior color that is dark violet and not white.

Always wanted to try the hiking trails through the mountains and see the
bronze age ruins.

Is the Melanzana in the photo the one from central Italy?

Fico, when you say that abandoned trees have good fruit probably it is a sign that increased humidity from watering attracts the fruit fly or other insects.

I am using Captain Jacks Deadbug brew on my vegetables, the active ingredient is spinosad and all the literature i have read says it should be effective on fruit flies as well. Just remember to wait recommended amount of time before harvesting for fruit i believes it ranges from 24--72 hours, and wash your fruit before consuming. If your fig tree is pollinated by wasps i do not recommend this product.
