You are probably a fig nut  if……………..

…You own more than 10 fig trees.

…The word Breba has meaning to you.

..You can name 10 different varieties of  dem figs.

…You can describe the taste of your figs in great culinary detail.

…You regularly communicate to cyber friends (that you have never met) about dem  figs.

…You belong to more than one fig forum.

…you try to root every single tee-tiny  little bitty twig that falls off your trees.

…You keep branches in the storage bin of your refrigerator.

…You “believe” that you actually can tell how a fig tastes just by looking at its picture.

…You stop telling your spouse when you purchased another fig.

…You get excited when you see red buds or pink stems.

…You are looking to buy more land in order  to plant even more trees.

..You always manage to find room for “just one more” fig tree.

…You buy several trees , all with the same name, just to see if they are different.

…You know that Col De Dame comes in three different colors.

…You know what “hanging dead ripe” means.

…You try to grow them in Canada.

…You annually bury your tree in the ground. Then dig it up in the spring.

…You hate birds.

…You no longer find squirrels to be cute little furry animals.

…You buy a dog or a cat to guard your trees.

…You think of black figs instead of red wine when you hear the word “Bordeaux”.

…The names Condit and O’Rourke have meaning to you.

And definitely you will know that you are a CERTIFIED FIG NUT  when you have more than 150 trees and are still searching for more.

My name is Dan, and I am a proud figaholic.

You buy ten trees at Home Depot because you know they are mislabeled and you are hoping one might be Ronde de Bordeaux.

If, when on vacation, you take pictures of fig trees

AND

when you come home, you find the fig trees on Google Maps!

AND

You determine the GPS coordinates!!!!

GPS   49.338927,-0.620789 Arromanches-les-Bains Normandy, France....just inland from the D-Day "Mulberry" harbors

Yep,

When you have learned to leap tall fences with a single bound like superman......you might be a fignut.

When you clip cuttings faster than a speeding bullet like superman....you might be a fignut.

When yoiu check your trees several times a day.......you might be a fignut.

When an ebay fig search page is saved as one of your favorite links....you might be a fignut.

When you pay entirely too much attention to the trees in other people's yard than the road ahead...you might be a fignut.

When you have a framed picture on the wall with 127 different varieties of figs....you might be a fignut.

.........When you just talked to a guy you never met for 45 minutes just because he had a fig tree in his yard --------and you already knew the tree was on street view of Google Earth.  He said the tree was a Brown Turkey.

When you check el or other nurseries weekly for anything they might have that is new and exciting.
If you are looking for a new house with more land for your figs
If you Facebook people in other countries so they can send you cuttings.
I am guilty of all but short a few figs not quite to 150!!

When you keep tree cutters in your car just incase you drive
by a fig tree that you can reach from the street and
take some cuttings. You might be a fignut.

You're a fig nut when you make a special trip to a location in Oregon to see the fig tree that you saw in the Winter while dormant and turns out it's not a fig tree.

Rafed's comment about the winter-not-a-fig-tree comment just made my day!  We must keep this thread rolling, I keep coming back to read it.
You know you're a fig nut when you make a spreadsheet specifically for your fig babies!

You stare at your non fig trees and think about how you could replace them with a fig tree especially if there hogging up valuable sun space.

You are probably a fig nut, when you chop down your peach trees and shade trees to plant more figs.

You are probably a fig nut, if Baud means figs to you instead of the speed of a modem.

You are definitely a fig nut, if you read Condit's book on figs from cover to cover.

Guilty on most counts!

Here's one more;
.....When you plant a fig tree just outside your bathroom window so that when you go relieve yourself in the morning, you can raise the shade to "check on" your tree!
That's one I'm personally guilty of.

- One just outside my bedroom window as well.
- Not to mention more than one outside the living room window.
- Now I'm wondering where I can add more windows!
- I make these admissions only among fellow fignuts HeHe ;).

Good stuff Dan.

If all you have to do is type "fi" in your address bar to get to the site, you might be a fignut.

Cathy,

I'm guilty of that one. Gave quite a few of my best figs to neighbors who let them all die. The one that really hurt the most and took it personal........I gave my one and only spare Black Celeste to a guy who lives 5 houses down the road. I figured it would still be my spare even if it were in his yard.........yeah right!!

I work on the rergister in the garden center. You would not belive how many people will kill any plant by simply not watering. I guess fast food nation feels like the plants suppost to water themself. Everything should be effort free.

PM920....congrats on your marriage. But who is taking care of your figs??

You might be a fignut if you plan a major event, like a wedding, based upon the dormancy of your figs.

If you can relate to this scenario:

1
Thinking [pre-fignut days]:
"I live in a hot sunny place and there's not enough shade in my backyard, I need to plant some trees."

2
Planting some nice trees that provide shade, affectionately caring for them as they grow.

3
[post-fignut epiphany]
"Hmmmm....these darned [non-fig] trees are creating too much shade in the backyard for my fig trees!"

And a few more--You might be a fig nut if:

You're happy to find a bundle of sticks in your Christmas stocking,
You think closed eyes have nothing to do with taking a nap,
A description of a hanged man conjures up visions of ripe fruit,
You wish your neighborhood had more stray cats, and,
The initials "BM" make your mouth water.

Three more, all true.

If you have your 12 year old son check the mailbox daily for cuttings you bought... you might be a fignut.

If you have him put them in the fridge and pay him off in aftermarket paintball marker accessories to keep it mums... you might be a fignut.

If you hide potted fig trees on the other side of the house/garage where the spouse seldom passes... you might be a fignut.
