USDA / UC Davis pix No.6 The goal of this trip was to photograph as many of the cultivars as possible. Some were earlier season figs, and no longer available, and some later season figs, not yet ripe. However, the vast majority were available. Unless otherwise noted, these were of acceptable flavor, worth growing, but not necessarily exceptional.King According to USDA comments this has a very heavy breba crop with figs larger than main crop.Kadota 1 Native de Argentile

Jon,
Don't know which to credit, your skill at photography or the subjects but both the King and Kadota 1 are beautiful specimens!
Woody.

Woody, It is a combination of things: 1) very beautiful subjects, 2) Photoshop for cleaning up backgrounds, 3) taking digital pix, so you can take 50, pick the one good one (and take another 50 if need be) and not waste film and money, 4) and a couple photography basics, such as shooting in indirect light (outdoors on a very bright sunny day in the shade is great). Oh, number 3 is the one I really count on. Enjoy.

I didn't make any specials notes, so it was neither awful or stand out, but acceptable. I was mainly interested in taking pictures, and paid more attention to taste on the numbered selections, which are, for the most part, unknowns. The rest only got notes if they were attention grabbing. It was also an unusual year, given the intense heat, so that some flavors were probably not equal to their usual performance. I know that I have more than one variety which was attention grabbing last year and this year I am left wondering if I was brain dead last year because they are mediocre, and in some cases, worse. Hopefully on a followup trip I can pay more attention to flavor, but, alas, there never seems to be enough time to fit everything in.
