Today May 2nd . (Helps me remember for seasons to come what i did by looking back at postings ) I moved all my fig plants to the yard in what i hope will be permanent for the season. I might still have to move the small ones in the shed if temps get to low but for the near future its not in the forecast. Some plants are slower than others in growing there leaves, my Black Maderia is turning out to be a finicky plant when it comes to night time temps as i have lost some newly emerging leaves and several small new branches about 3 inches in lenght due to leaving it out when nightly temps dipped 45 or below so this plant bares watching and care. I think i posted before geese flying directly over our garage when the plants where on driveway deposited a direct hit on my native de argentile and it destroyed the top of one of two tops of branches the were budding out. My 1 remaining santa cruz dark is slow to leaf out just starting now and has 5 to 6 very small breba on it , supposedly a san pedro type plant which i give a few years to test in in my climate to see if its a keeper. My Vdb had a few breba that grew fast but as with my others they just fall off here when they arrive to early in our spring. Hope its a good warm season and the geese that fly by to the ponds out here dont land anymore direct hits on my plants.

Martin , I`d love to see you fig layout this year, also I can compare my plants with yours since we`re in the same climate. Please post some pics. Today I ordered 30 x 2.5 GAL. pots for my cuttings, pots may be a little to big ,but I don`t need to replant next year.

Martin, I have a patio set but the cushions are not out yet but the table is covered with plastic. I have some of the newly potted figs in trays and I slide them under the table with the plastic covering them. The rest are placed in the wagon and I roll them in and out everyday. The wagon holds about 25 or 30 1gl pots. So far my loss with the cuttings has been very minimal compared to the amount of cuttings I've received. My biggest disappointment is with the 143-36. They do well and grow their leaves and add couple of inches to their length and just suddenly they wilt. I still have a couple in the mini greenhouse so I will take extra time with them. Always good to have insurance. And regarding the Geese, Time to plan a Counter Strike! LOL

Rafed, can you post a pic of your fig mobile or perhaps start a thread on fig mobile. Thanks.

Paul, Can't get the pic to upload. I will go back and search for the instructions to do it tomorrow and post then. It's a large green garden wagon about 2ft. x 4ft.. Holds four square 1gl. pots per row ( with a little squeeze ). 25 pots or less would be a little more practical. The wagon is a big help. I move lots of heavy things with it.

Martin The geese were just trying to be helpful with your plants with instant release top fertilization spray. Paul, I just missed a chance to have a garden (fig) wagon advertised for $60 on Kijiji that could have carried about 25 fig plants in one gallon pots.

Rafed that sounds like a nice way for you. When mine are on driveway its a short distance back to garage for me. Trouble is when there in yard like now to move them back to garage i have the homemade cobblestone walkway which is bump ride for the plants. So i figure on cold nights i will move the lawn mower and garden tractor out of shed and carry the plants across the grass into the shed and take a asprin for the back ache. ; ) Now i just watched the news and low and behold Thursdays will go down to near freezing my small plants cannot take that so they will all have to go in shed, the larger ones im thinking about still, it may change we shall see. If i had a long distance and had more than our 1/2 acre property i could bring out the thingy i haul dirt its neat as i can release a lever and it tilts like a dump truck it came in handy when we first moved out here 20 seasons back and i installed the sod and planted all the trees on property course i was much younger. I pull it behind my garden tractor which would hold 30 to 40 or so gallon pots, i used it to mix the cement in when i made the cobblestone walkway and base for my large flagpole. I just have a couple 1 g pots about 7- 10 gallon size and a few 30 g size pots which i use the hand truck when there on driveway to go back in garage. Ha see i dont have the fig bug like Paulley said we all do i think in a earlier thread, matter of fact i will be getting rid of some plants in seasons to come as they mature and i weed out my dark types i grow and try some other dark types i have in mind all in all they will balance out to no more than 20 or so thats all i can handle with space, cost of soil to root prune, fertilizer, and storage space. I just cannot manage more than that its to much especially when it comes to root pruning and moving them around for me. So the few i have will always get my best attention until its there time to thin out again.

Hi Martin I like your strategy of trialing and giving a few seasons to see what you will keep I'm limited in space myself so must also adapt to that discipline of thought. I hope your weather holds up for the rest of season after Thurs of course. It is summer temps here already we hit 90 yesterday and the same is in store today. The nights are staying around 70 already and it has been humid the past few days yuck. Sal
