Hi i was reading a thread about grafting knife . Last season Jusalda came to look at my plants and in conversation i asked him about grafting. I brought out sharp knife and he demonstrated procedure on a regular yard tree branch.
The precision he employed he would have made a good surgeon !

For fun i may try doing it in future.

Here is what is called a Omega tool being demonstrated in a video
Also here is another graft explained with pictures from Mundani website.
Both links below. The youtube link is demostration with Omega tool.

I have an omega grafting tool. I tried it out and it really didn't increase my chances of a successful take. It might have even lowered my average. On the other hand it did speed up the process. I've found that a sharp knife works the best. A real good tool is a carpenters knife aka a box cutter. Replaceable blade, retracts when not in use, easy to find at the store if you need a new one.
The biggest discovery I've had for grafting figs is to do it when the buds start to push on the mother plant. Then put a plastic baggie over the whole thing to retain moisture.

Good Luck!! Grafting time is approaching!

ebay, $40 included shipping from Austrailia. Good deal but my experience with grafting apples, pears and figs with it has shown a pretty poor result. Old fashioned cleft graft is way better.

I was not impressed with the Omega when I saw it used. Grafting with a knife is really not that hard, with just a little practice.

I have the omega tool and I agree with little John and Pitangadiego. The best for grafting is a sharp knife and practice.
I don't like this tool. It is oxidizing in any forgotten drawer of my home.

I got the omega tool as well. The only time I use it is when I have thick scionwood that I really need to graft. It will not work will with thin wood, knife works much better.
