Hi Everyone,
These 2 figs seem to have a lot of similarities (green, red interior, late ripening etc.) Has anyone had an opportunity to taste both and compare them?

  Take care

well today I can speak for Green Greek. I do have a small BG growing but no figs yet....maybe this summer. GG does ripen late and taste like a very sweet jammy raspberry. It is an excellent tasting fig. I got one in the ground and another in a pot, its my backup. Are these the same fig, heck I don't know. In my honest opinion, GG is richer in flavor than my Paradiso but equal in sweetness. GG figs are medium size. What size are BG figs? I no nothing about BG figs.

Pete, you may as well put white Genoa in the same list.  Blood red interior, very late ripening green (no hint of yellow) exterior and a fairly thick skin compared to most other figs.

From Sybil formally of Edible Landscaping if I'm not mistaken.

Quote:  Battaglia Green (a deep Strawberry Verte) was introduced by our nursery about 15 years ago.  The tree was saved by our friend, Sandy Battaglia, hence the name.  It turned out to be one of the most beautiful of the verte figs with a rich, dark burgundy-red center.  Stunning in salads and any kind of fruit plate.  Surprises everyone who cuts or bites into it.  Very sweet and delightful.

BG is open eye, GG is tight eye. And GG turns a ashy white green when ripe.

Alan: thanks for the response and info. It appears that these 2 figs are different.
Dennis: good to know that GG has a closed eye & that its taste is richer than Paradiso. I don't have Paradiso but from what I have read it is a very good fig.

ejp3: your right about White Genoa being late. The one I got from Joe Morle ripens in October but its taste was mild & delicate and BG & GG sound like they have a richer berry flavor
