The proper spelling of the Sicilian Italian fig introduced by Bass and I is spelt as such (Pane e Vino) not as I have seen it listed for on different sites. I know it's not a big deal but I'm putting it out there for all to see. Lou

I have a great fondness for that expression. I don't speak Italian, but whenever my Italian born father would start a fire in the fireplace, that is what he would exclaim with great spirit. As a young child, I thought it meant 'fire'. Either way, it was good. And warm. If for no other reason, I think I need that fig - the dark one. :) Here is a previous good thread on Pane e Vino.http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Ripe-Panevino-Dark-5339180?highlight=pane+vino

Now I feel like having some grilled octopus Korean style... in hot bean paste sauce.

Thanks for the correction Lou. The last thing I want is to create a fig naming confusion...

They taste good deep fried with batter -- like the way the Greek Restaurants do the Calamari. Yum, yum.

OK, what is that sitting in the middle of that octopus? Is the Octopus cooked, or raw in that picture? I have only eaten squid/calamari. noss

lot of korean people eat live octupus. i don't care for it myself.. there is a chance they will get stuck on your throat and you won't be able to make it through the dinner.

Polpo is good eating, but I have always wanted to try fresh squid over pasta with squid ink sauce. To stay somewhat on-topic I'd naturally want fresh figs for desert. A Sicilian variety to go with the dish.
