Rooting cuttings horizontally

I have recently rooted cuttings horizontally, now I have some beautiful roots but now what? Do I plant them horizontally? It is easy with the end tips but how about the mid-section cuttings as they are completely covered with roots. I took one and cut it in half and planted one vertical and the other under 1" of real loose soil mixture (high moss/perlite), we'll see. The clear shoebox w/damp moss in the semi-dark garage (90+ deg) really works well, 10 days. You can plant horizontally. Then when dormant you can separate the buds and have more plants. Just make sure each plant has enough roots to support before cutting. __________________ Dominick Zone 6a-MA

i have one node cutting that is stuck into the soil. it seems water control is more of an issue when nothing is above soil, at least in my case. the bud has rot under the soil. however, up on planting it vertically, it has put out a new bud. not sure if it will make it, but i'll keep an eye on it. __________________ Pete Durham, NC Zone 7b "don't talk to me about naval tradition. Horizontal rooting has worked better for me with DORMANT cuttings. In ground, outside in shade. I set em and forget em, and one day, surprise! I just let the figs stay there and pot up when dormant.
