I'll be cutting up my Sal's Corleone this coming week, it has grown too high and is close to the house so it needs a major haircut. I know I should have done this in the fall, but I was having some health problems and never got around to it. If anyone is interested in scion, send me a pm. I only ask for postage in return.

I'd love a Sal's Corleone. I am relatively new to the forum and don't have the alphabets down yet. Tell me what a PM is and I will send it.

Ed,
I tried to mix fat ones or at least medium sized ones with a couple skinny ones for everyone. I really hope everyone is able to get something to grow, Sal's Colreone is a very good fig!! And for you and whoever else asked the source of my tree, it was from good ole George who purchased his directly from Belleclaire as he even sent me a label from Belleclaire to confirm that is was the real deal.

Oh, one more thing, as there were so many packages to prepare I did not label any of them with the variety name, but you all know it is only Sal's Corleone, no other variety.

Ok I just mailed the last few requests out. I did get a lot of requests and it's possible that I inadvertently passed over someone so if you don't get your package in the next couple days, please let me know.

A month later... Here are 4 growing cuttings of Sal's Corleone from you. That is sweet Devil Boy helping.
Two of the cuttings definitely have observed roots (marked with toothpicks with gold tops), and the one with the large shoot that is actively growing most likely has roots too. The cutting with two shoots are from two buds.
Hopefully these will be bearing trees by next year.
Thanks again for the cuttings. :)

Devil boy looks like a flame point, but he is a mutt. His mom was a tortoise shell with strong tabby overtones, and his father was said to be siamese. His real name is Blondie, but Devil Boy seems to fit him better some of the time. I got him at 1 year old after he was put up for adoption by people who could no longer deal him. He is much calmer now and bites and scratches much less, thank goodness. When I got him, he actually scared me at times. No longer. :)
Anyway, he crashed the cutting photo scene, and it was cute, so I posted it here. Bottom line - Sal's Corleone cuttings doing well, I'm happy.

It's been over a month and it's time for another update.
These 3 are now living outside mostly in the shade, but getting some sun for acclimation. There is a bit of water on the leaves causing the reflection. I don't know if these are the same cuttings as in the previous photo in post #20 since my cuttings get moved around as their status changes. None have died, so the 4th is somewhere... :) So is Devil Boy, who currently is napping. :)

Your plants look really good. They are much further off than mine. What soil mix did you use to root them? I'm curious because out West I don't see ProMix which people say works well. I just put them in half MG moisture retention soil and half perlite. They were outside in 90-100 degree weather. It worked great on most of my cuttings, but not these.
I pulled them all out and put it in the baggie method which I never did before. Actually, I've been traveling with them. My husband thinks I'm crazy. The baggie method seems to be working. My Peter's Honey has roots on it now even though most of the bark came off of the cutting. Looks like the SC is just starting to root. I'm only worried that the rooted cuttings don't get confiscated when I fly back.

Thanks. I happened to use half perlite, half SuperSoil brand. I'd be careful using anything that 'retained water'. I'm impressed that your cuttings survived such high temperatures.
Traveling with them? Did they need passports? ;)

Thanks. I wish. My success rate did increase as I got more cuttings over the season. There was much to learn. :)

Hi Gina, Nice looking tiny trees! So cute at that size. Where did you get your SuperSoil mix? I agree with you about the moisture control types of soil. It can kill. noss

"Nice looking tiny trees! So cute at that size."
Thanks, yes they are cute. Sal's Corleone has such petite, 'lacy' leaves.
"Where did you get your SuperSoil mix?" HomeDepot. 2 cubic feet bags. I think just under $8. SuperSoil has changed its formulation over the years and it's not nearly as good as it used to be. More coarse. But it still works well enough.

Wow, great job Gina. I am so envious. That is the cutting that I really wanted to grow and I simply failed. You were right about the soil. I kept it in soil too moist. Then I pulled them out and tried the baggie method which seemed to work, but I was traveling too much and I think I kept the cuttings a little too moist and they didn't get enough sun. Disaster. Well, I learned a lot. Those cuttings looked so healthy too, I thought they would take no problem. It felt like Christmas when I got them and I'm sorry I didn't do them right.

Gina SC tree look very nice. Thank you for all of the updates so far. Can I ask you if you can explain the way how you root your cuttings? Quote:

Only 2 years ago this was considered one of the top sought after figs. It's amazing to see how it has spread. Only a select few had it at the time.
