I have a Desert King fig tree from RollingRiverNursery and I noticed this fig on it today.  Is this a Desert King and isn't it a breba only fig tree?

From Jon's site. Maybe this is 'one of those years'. You had a Zidi set too if I'm remembering correctly.

Quote:
KING
SYN: CHARLIE, DESERT KING, WHITE KING
 DESCRIPTION
A medium greenish-yellow fig with strawberry pulp. Pyriform to oblique. It ripens a large breba crop between late June and August. A San Pedro type, it sometimes sets main crop figs without pollination. Sweet and rich. Well-adapted in the Northwest and cooler areas of the South. Fairly hardy.

I just looked at the tag and I guess they didn't legally sell me a Desert King.  They sold me a Dessert King.  It's sort of like no fruit in Froot Loops cerea

I was telling myself I have to get around to taking off all those main crop Desert King figs so the energy could go into the plant.  Good think I tend to procrastinate.  Now I'll see if this unkown has any good figs.

tmc ,
If that had been a Desert King , I think Herman had suggested in the past that you not remove the main crop , just let it drop on its own.
Something about negative effect on next season's breba if you remove main crop.

My Desert King will ripen some of its main crop, but the main crop figs that do ripen are inferior to the brebas.  I've never seen a purple fig on either the breba or main crop for Desert King.  The leaf looks different too.

I would contact Rolling River Nursery and show them your pics. That is not a Desert King.
