So I've been lamenting the slow progress of my cuttings. For nearly two months, I've been wiping off mold; clipping off bad sections, and trying every tactic I could think of. No growth. Not even a node to speak of. Frankly, I was beginning to wonder if anything would happen.

All of that apparently changed overnight (technically 3-4 days since I checked all of them). I looked over everything this evening. Ka-Boom! I've got roots everywhere.

I'm going to be busy tomorrow with potting up all of my new babies. And I have no idea where I will put them all. It's certainly a good problem to have. Hopefully, Santa brings me more lights. :)

And the timing is perfect since I just put all of my potted figs into the garage two days ago.

Veery cool, John.  I am looking forward to that day myself.   So far this year, I've got leaves on some of them...just no roots yet.

Hey John.. that is a great feeling. Hoorah!  What I do if I have to, is I put two of the same kind in one cup, with a piece of hard plastic separating them , like a piece of the cup- Upon having more room, I go around, rescueing them to new cups, but figure, it is not a bad idea to have 2 trunk tree.

John,

Yea, those cuttings do seem to sneak up on you. I was wondering about mine too then a couple of weeks ago there was a spurt of growth. I feel your happiness.

John, that's great!  Do you think there was a contributing factor, like temp change or rooting method?  Or did they simply decide to wake up?

Thanks, everyone. I was really starting to think I had lost the rooting mojo. This batch took far longer than any I had ever tried.

Frank, no idea why they suddenly started. The roots appeared over a range of methods and the temp and humidity never changed. The only change was me telling the cuttings they could do it. Perhaps, motivational speaking (and more than a little begging) worked. Whatever the case, I am good with the sudden results. now, I just have to keep them going until Spring.

i check cuttings and cups daily.. and it does seem to happen that way. one day i don't see anything. next they, "BOOM!". there is a 1/4" root. either i'm not paying attention, or it's a magic :)
