Hi all . I have been trying to understand the recent mania in fig ( cutting and plant ) prices . I get it now . It is Ben Bernanke's master plan . First there was the Dot-Com bubble created by Ben's predecessor . But that failed . Next was the housing bubble .. Ooops . Now commodities are becoming bubbly ( gold , silver , oil , etc ) But none of these have managed to pull the economy out of true recession or reduce joblessness sigficantly. I finally get what all this money printing and quantitative easing is all about . Look at the prices of figs on E-Bay .They're trying to create a FIG BUBBLE . All that free money floating around the system is being directed at figs. Think about it . The dutch used tulip bulbs as a store of value in the 1600's. so why not figs . Forget gold and silver . Too heavy . People will be walking around with fig cuttings in their back pocket . VDB $10 , RDB worth $20 etc. I think Federal Reserve agents are already on this forum and E-Bay trying to bid up the prices to start the ball rolling on inflating the fig bubble. What else can explain the recent prices ? Not logic . Imagine all the jobs that will be created . People can work from home in their basements rooting cuttings . Imagine all the new varieties that will be introduced for Initial Public Offering . There was a recent IPO on E-Bay of a previously unheard of variety that created such a frenzy reminiscent of PALM's I.P.O . Remember the palm pilot ? NO ? Hmmm. Why put your cash in the bank for 1% yearly return ? Instead buy the latest 6 inch fig fad cutting for $100 . Root it . and in a year it should easily be 5 feet tall . That is 10 new cuttings . 1000 % return per year . In 4 short years you have made a 1000 000 % return on initial investment . You are rich . And don't forget you also collect dividends along the way , all the figs you can eat . Finally in the remote possibility that this bubble pops , atleast you can enjoy a nice rare fig or two ... Mr. Bernanke you are a genius ... John ;) Ps .. Invest in sphagnum moss now before its too late ..

It's not just figs. I was tracking a particular Haworthia on ebay and it finished over $500!! I thought I might take a shot at it if it stayed around $30!! Ha, was I kidding myself! And I have seen crazy prices for other plants on ebay too. It seems that any new variety or unusal plant gets the premium on ebay these days. Hard to believe these prices in this economy. Especially for plants like that Haworthia. At least with the figs, you do get a return on your investment in the form of tasty figs to eat, no one is gonna eat a Haworthia.

You are obviously a serious potential candidate for office or somewhere else, LOL You really understand economics of the masses. Be the first to buy fig derivatives, contact me now for more information, you must have a credit card that has $10000 available credit and a Paypal account You may as well throw your money this direction because once its gone, it really doesn't matter where it went.

and here I was thinking figs would save the world, well humanity at least, because once all the bees are gone, it is one of the few plants that does not need pollination to produce fruit.

Something for everyone - figs and weed thanks to Alice B. "Take 1 teaspoon black peppercorns, 1 whole nutmeg, 4 average sticks of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon coriander. These should all be pulverized in a mortar. About a handful each of stone dates, dried figs, shelled almonds and peanuts: chop these and mix them together. A bunch of canibus sativa can be pulverized. This along with the spices should be dusted over the mixed fruit and nuts, kneaded together. About a cup of sugar dissolved in a big pat of butter. Rolled into a cake and cut into pieces or made into balls about the size of a walnut, it should be eaten with care. Two pieces are quite sufficient. Obtaining the canibus may present certain difficulties.... It should be picked and dried as soon as it has gone to seed and while the plant is still green."

Sammy, Your daughter's Plumeria is the only one of its kind in existence. Plumeria don't come true to type. It's only after it flowers that you'll know how valuable it is.
