Just to follow up on Armando's question - are you asking about the difference between Col de Dame Noir (black) and Col de Dame Blanc (white)? When I first red your post I thought you were asking about CdDN vs. Black Ischia! I've heard that the taste is very similar for the noir and blanc (excellent) though Martin might disagree :) The gris is supposed to be the most desirable of the three because it is a bit healthier and ripens fruits a bit earlier. The challenge for these figs in the mid-atlantic/northeast is for them to have a long enough growing season with enough heat to properly ripen a good crop. I assume CdD is lazy shorthand for the group of thee figs; I've never heard of a fig just called Col de Dame full stop.

I hear they are similar if not same tasting. My CDDN grows very well and made a spare that grew 4ft last season but discarded due to parent doing so well in its 2nd growing season and producing some figs to sample.

Yup Pete you mentioned weather stunk many times this year and i agree it stunk here as well course we did not get constant rain but when we did get rain it was nasty. Then some Nov. tornados here in our state recently and several of them in the western part of our county i reside in were confirmed. 5 - 6 folks perished in Illinois. Farmers almanac predicts cold winter including our area and so far its holding true below normal Nov temps but will seem nice come January !

UCD CdD grows well for me. No fruit yet, but nice tree. Still young yet. I seem to recall reading somewhere that these are actually Spanish. I remember seeing a pic of someone's CdD Blanc growing on their rooftop there and it was huge and a beautiful looking tree. I thought they said it was a Spanish variety. Anyways, I can't speak to taste but seems like a nice tree! I probably need a greenhouse before I'll be able to comment on its taste.

Pete I made that mistake of confusing the two, Cuello de Dama is for drying but Coll de Dama is from Catalonia/Roussillon it is the same as Col de Dame that you have, also grown in Mallorca/Balearic Isles.
