I have signed up on the new forum, lots of familiar names, I am using "figstyx" as screen name for the new forum, to avoid confusion on my part.

OK, I see, looks like a few weeks old and dominated by our NYPD fig friend from here I believe, blog are so easy to create, but what works is the content and the partnerships. Good luck to them, between this one and Gardenweb I am set.

I looks like NYPD, Celt and a few others who were upset here are driving it. I guess they actually did take their toys to play elsewhere. Good riddance. My view is that I will not miss those who meant nothing to me in the first place. Since they departed, the forum has been much happier and more productive, regardless of those ex-members' past contributions. Of late, they were poison. We retained those who matter.

Tried it again. Was able to get it to work this time. Looks to me the new site has some of the older members here now in charge of the DELETE button on a new site. I guess if they now can't get their point across they will be able to delete any opposition. I do wish it to work, could add to our hobby but if they start their old practices I see it as doomed.

Look at the set of rules, sad if abused. I think anyone can set up a blog, but the technical content here , help fullness of members, and the material Jon has about the many types of figs is of high value.

Wow, if one of the "experts" decides you are wrong, you can either revise your post to reflect their established opinion or have it deleted as wrong. In other words - "You may share your knowledge, as long as it is the same as ours." The new forum's rules seem laughable, considering who is making the mandate. They speak about poor behavior not being tolerated and leading to potential banishment. Listed offenses are "harassment, fighting among members and/or disregard of common decency." Sound familiar? Pot - "Hey Kettle, you're black."

I'm sure they are not bad people, but their behavior was unfortunate. I do wish them well, although I fear for the long-term success of that forum, if they don't lighten up a bit. And sadly, I think we will lose some folks here, due to allegiances formed from getting cuttings and such. Got to go where your bread is buttered. Regardless, this is where I will be staying. Why mess with what works?

To clear the air and set the record straight. I was as surprised as anyone to learn that a couple of my fig friends had started a new site. I was asked to join after it was conceived, designed and up with no prior knowledge of it happening. No one told me a thing. I joined, then was made a moderator, also without my knowledge. I don't know if I am a capable moderator or not but I appreciated the vote of confidence from my friends. I know that a couple of them left after several controversial posts and I don't think that was a good move. I personally wouldn't quit if I was not happy with a few comments from others. And while we are on the subject of comments from others, some here have also resorted to insults and name calling, exactly what several of you were complaining about. Yes everyone's kettle is black. In my view, that doesn't help the situation one bit, although it may help you to feel clever for a moment. I have no idea of the future of this new site, but I applaud the effort. I don't see it as taking away from Figs4Fun, rather as an addition. Gardenweb does not take away at all from this site and I don't expect any amount of new forums would. This site is top notch in my view and Jon does a great job of running it. The information and pictures amassed here is unsurpassed. I have no intention of leaving, rather I found myself posting more and more recently in an effort to some how bring the forum back to normalcy after the recent disruptions. I truly don't like to see heavy handed disputes and I am saying it here for all to see. We are adults, we should remember that and act accordingly. I will continue to contribute as I have in the past. I enjoy the commeraderie and have made many good friends which I cannot find myself able to choose between so I will not even try. Fig people are good people by and large with an occassional exception and I have had the pleasure to meet some very fine fig folks indeed as a result of this forum. And don't even get me started on the trades and fantastic varieties we are all sharing here. This is the first and last post I intend to make about this subject here in f4f. If anyone wishes to discuss or comment about it with me, please do so in a pm. This is Jon's site and I respect that.

Barry, I'd just like to remind you that the recent disruptions were caused by the people behind this new site. You may applaud the effort but I find the timing suspect. Why start picking fights and creating negativity on this site and then claim this site is no longer good enough only to underhandedly create a new site? Why not just leave with dignity and integrity? Why try and poison this site first?

Well said Barry. We are all adults, stay, leave, join both, it's a personal decision based on your wants (might actually be "needs" in the case of figs LOL). I will probably join both in an effort to learn more, as I am a novice for life. Some of us are more passionate than others about figs. To each his own. Best of luck to everyone.

dom and celt has been very generous member of this forum, and to me. i know there has been some troubling posts in recent past, but i think keeping on putting them down isn't really necessary or healthy for this forum. F4F is the only forum that i go for figs. i hope the other forum does well, but it just feels like home here. once things cool down, i hope dom and celt come back.

Barry, Very well said, At least some of things that initiated the exodus I completely agree with them on, but I guess we all have varying levels of tolerance. I have wasted my time growing fruit trees that proved not true to name, and it’s frustrating. I will stay around here for sure, but don’t know if I will join over there as I am always online through a VPN and my employer blocks me getting to the site. I get called day and night for my job support so I always am on the VPN. In fact they are probably monitoring each of my keystrokes so I better get back to work.

During my travels over the road I was fortunate enough to meet with many wonderful people from the forum. Some I have met with in multiple occassions. Some I am still in contact with and some we just say hi and bye from time to time. Unfortunately, I have parted ways with some as well. That's the nature of the beast I guess. As humans we are not so perfect. I was looking foreword to meeting many many others but the time had come to get off the long road and take something local to spend time with my family. With that said, and not taking away from anyone I have met. Each and everyone single one of them have a special place in my heart. But if there's a person so humble and so down to earth and lovable that would be Barry. Barry and I are in constant contact. He did tell me he had no idea this was coming and it all happened ( to him ) so fast. So on and so forth. To be quite honest, I was a bit upset I did not get an invite to join. But he explained to me a couple of times about not having any prior knowledge until it was a bit late and was sincere. I will leave it at that and not go into detail. In short, Barry's association with the new forum should not be viewed in a negative way. He is still my friend. Best of luck to the new forum and wish them great success. But my loyalty is with Jon. This is where I belong. Hope I put my two cents and happy figging. Edit: Not saying for those who choose to join the other forum are not loyal. Hope no one takes me the wrong way.

Let us say that it (new site) is still a fig community. Please do not be harsh on them. Some may have had a different view and they might have put their view that seemed harsh to some. It happens to many of us, in the forum or somewhere else. I hope they start something new and useful rather than doing the same thing on different site. It is not the first time or last time it happened (harsh words). I don't believe this but it just could have been the star and moon line-up that caused the uproar. Let us move along. It is possible they still may be members here as well. Also it should not reflect negatively on anyone joining there as well. I had signed on http://figforums.com/ but it appears the moderators are too busy to renew the ??? (whatever it is, fee or license or..)

There should not be an "US and THEM" environment between any participants of any forums. I currently participate on 9 forums- 2 bicycle. 2 gun, 2 hunting, and now 3 fig forums, there is not a competition between forums, there is not a "loyalty" issue, there is only participation or not. I do not know why Jon started this forum, and I don't care. I don't really know why Fig Yuku started, and I don't care, only that both were started and I now participate on both. If a loyalty oath or an exclusion starts, I will not participate. I would suggest we use this week to say what we need to say and then move on, life is thru the windshield, not the rear view mirror.

Danny, I doubt there will be a loyalty oath or exclusion to ever start and I did edit my post to make myself clear before you even wrote your post. And I respect your opinion. And I doubt there will be any "Us" against "Them" going to go on either. There shouldn't be. Like others that made it clear by saying they choose to stay here I did too. That is it. Nothing more nothing less. I understand some folks don't like the choice of words I choose to use but this is the way it is. Sorry. I cannot please everyone. I meant it whole hearted by saying I wish them the best. I don't know what else I need to say? This is the last I will post on this thread. I'm moving on, I have too many figs to tend to. Not going to waste anymore of my time responding on this thread. Happy figging

My turn. My name is Tim Drag. Also, the admin(timdrag) on fig.yuku.com. I thought I would chime in to provide you with my perspective and why I leant my technical knowledge to the worthy endeavor that is and will continue to be fig.yuku.com. I am a newbie. I freely admit it. I jumped into this hobby with both feet and I look forward to increasing my knowledge and understanding. It may surprise you to know that a newbie is intimately involved with the creation of the site. But I want you to see my perspective. When I joined F4F only 6 months ago, it was a much different space. People tended to respect opinions. People openly shared their figs, thoughts and opinions. People respected eachother and respected our common thread, the fig. Where we are now is not where this was when I joined. Allow me first to debunk some of the comments above. Fig.yuku.com is not a "loyalty" issue. Did you cancel your GW membership when you came over to F4F? I see many familiar names over there that post on both sites. It's not sacrilege to belong to another site to discuss figs. I for one will still look at this board. It is not a "respect" thing. How could you not respect Jon and what he is doing here? Jon was one of the first "trusted sellers" on fig.yuku.com and I hope Jon will join to discuss the F4F Foundation and keep us informed about the trees and cuttings he has for sale. Jon is also a member of GW, so we hope he is willing to join fig chat and contribute. It's not conspicuous timing as has been intimated on this site. There is nothing "in it" for anyone. We have nothing to sell, nothing to gain. The discourse was not a preemptive move in any way shape or form. Now, here is my perspective.New Members : New members rock! I think i've been one of the few who has gone out of their way to defend new members on this site. You were all new at some point. For some reason over the last 6 months the discourteousness shown to new members has been reprehensible. Members have gone so far to call newbies "demanding" and refusing to share their time, expertise, and cuttings with new members. I may have missed some PM's but i've tried to share what little surplus plant material I have. Are many new members going to "hit and run" sure. But today's new member is tomorrow's "old head". Their rooting method may become the new norm. Their unknown fig in their backyard may be the best tasting fig on the planet. If you don't encourage new members, you will miss out on a lot. IMHO some of you have forgotten that. I want to encourage new members to contribute and not be shunned. Respect the Fig!: All of us are "plant people". You kind of have to be since you are on a chat board to talk about figs. The disrespect shown toward the fig here boggles my mind. The cultivar of the fig you grow is important. The etymology of names is important to the cultivation of figs. People on here seem to have forgotten that. How does a name not matter? Why don't I just call everyone "Bill" and "Jane"? Why have people like Condit, O'Rourke, and others spent decades researching and identifying figs? Because names matter. People have become so ambivelant to the naming of figs that if it continues, who knows what strain will be original. Members of late seem to be just applying whatever name appears to be correct for their fig. Not researching. Not comparing. Just naming. It's wrong. The response that "names don't matter" makes no sense. Do you grow a jujube and call it an apple becuase it kind of tastes like the other? Imagine if as a succulent grower if names didn't matter? The cornerstone of Fig.Yuku.com is to preserve cultivars. We are not going to reclassify, just accurately preserve what is already out there. If it is unknown, it will be called unknown. The primary reason for a "trusted seller" list is so that a member will feel confident that they will get what they buy. If you want LSU Tiger, you will get LSU Tiger.Oversight: I don't think you need to have an over-moderated board. But you need some sort of moderation. Objective, honest moderation. Many of the problems complained about in this thread can be solved with active moderators. Incorrect information can be corrected. Spammers and fake sellers can be immediately removed. There was a recent issue here with a member having 2 usernames. The free flow of information is a blessing, but the free flow of bad information is a curse. You are welcome to disagree with me. I'm interested in other perspectives. As a former Division 1 football player, I spent my formative years learning the importance of teamwork, respect, selflessness, communication, and doing the right thing. I carry that into my personal life and my career. They used to be here. I hope they come back. I felt helpless that I couldn't change the path. That's why fig.yuku.com exists. There will be no bullying. There will be no stymying of free thought. Fighting will not be tolerated. Figs will be explored and respected. We will look for members to substantiate information if need be to keep information as close to factual as possible. I hope you'll come over, take a look, and talk figs.

I would like to make a comment about BLB (Barry). Barry is one of the most wonderful and honest people I have EVER met. He is a super valuable person on f4f and I consider him my friend. I have my own opinions about how things work and what's true and what isn't - but one thing I know for a fact is that Barry is one of the good guys and a generous and giving man. And I'm sure I just made him blush. Sorry Barry.

I tend to agree with what some other persons had previously said - this is not a 'loyalty' issue... May all FFs flourish on their own-earned-merit; based on them good members and moderators.
