Some time back I mentioned a liquid given to me by a chemist friend.  I have been using this for a while now and it seems to really enhance root development as well as leaf growth as well.  I have since been told that it is basically a Humic Acid compound that is used as a soap.  In my research I have found that IBA (root hormone compound) is why it works on plants.

Danny at 1 time i used whats called Clonex red it was hard to get at the time not sure how hard it's to get now though but i no longer root scion regardless.

They stated with clonex red as opoosed to the regular clonex  it has the highest concentration of IBA of any other rooting product on the market and made for hardwood cuttings.

Hi Danny,

I've been using Medina Ag's "Liquid Humate" for years.  In propagating cuttings, I do not use it as a rooting gel, per se.  I did dilute it into the liquid I used to soak my sphagnum moss in.  So the roots would grow into a fortified sphagnum moss.  I also use it as part of the drench when I transplant a tree (either into the ground or another container).  A few years ago, there was some discussions in this forum regarding the "fatness" of roots and whether it could be contributed to humic/fulvic acids. It appears as though it works well for what I use it for (and I certainly wouldn't consider it a panacea).  Looking back at pics I took in 2005-2007, it appears as though my roots are fatter now, but I do not consider myself a scientist and have not really identified/eliminated other variables which may have caused the effects.  I'm not necessarily endorsing the product.  Rather I am saying I use it even if the results on cuttings are marginal, it is cheap enough (about $20/gal and diluted 1oz:1gal) for me to continue using.

I am not sure what the recipe/process is on this stuff but I found out about the IBA and asked for some of it to try.  I intend to do some side-by-side growing this spring and maybe I can develop some real data.  I really don't want to use figs for my study as sometimes there is no rhyme nor reason to success with fig cuttings.  I am not sure what I will use first.  I am also using this as a soil enhancer and those results are really spectacular, kinda like the "Alaska Tea" the giant veggie guys use.  I think it will out perform traditional fertilizer.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Danny im not sure if this is accurate but i used 40lb bags of Humus organic last season in my homemade stuff for a few plants and they did well .
Not sure if that humic acid stuff mentioned in article is derived from organic Humus or not im just not that edge a micated !.  ; )

I guess it is ok to hijack my own thread but you had a "Martins Purple Unknown" that you gave away, is that tree still around?  and how do I get cuttings?  I am trying to attach your pict.

Danny that tree is long gone but im sure some forum members have it if you post a thread asking.
The person i gave it to i have not seen post in some time.

Jon has both of them come to think of it as there were 2 different ones.
The one you picture is Martins Unknown and long ago a purchase as a Celeste but its obviously not a Celeste.

The other was  Martins Italian Unknown a much smaller dark type fig.
