If you had just chosen to space your cups a little differently, you could have fit one more!

That's what's nice about this forum there is always new versions on how to do the same thing no matter how crazy it may seem. I'm sure someone has a different version to do this, I just wouldn't know what to do with somany plants of same variety

Very nice Justin! What a bold idea. I bet 100% (root)! Reminds me of the song: this little figgy went to market, this little figgy stayed home, this little figgy had...... Well you get it ;)

This is a Ronde de Bordeaux fig tree. It is a nice alternative to trying to root cuttings, should be a 100% success rate. These are just little Dixie cups, but I just found some little cups with lids on amazon so I can seal in the moisture. I think they are 5.5oz's, trying to get one plant for every two nodes. Maybe next time I will do the whole tree and post pics, I believe every man, women, and child needs a fig tree. :)

Highly likely there will also be green shoots come up from the nodes in the cups.

I would love to have many fig trees!! Would love to walk amongst them and taste their sweet fruit each morning like that F4F member posted the other day. what a blessing to have so much goodness! Your air layers look awesome! Did you use plastic cups or bottles? Why do you have foil over them? Is this just a special technique? I guess there are many techniques...lol

~yes i used tea bottles or water bottles , i left the tops open and folded foil over, yes foil holds in moisture and reflects the sun without foil in summer you will need to water them every other day or so ,i always use foil, thanks,

Thanks, Chuck. Also, Do you use regular soil or do you use Sphagnum moss for your air layering?

~i use sphagnum moss (some use potting mix and i believe that to be ok )soaking wet when you pack it in bottle ,i cut 1" of bark off all around branch where moss is going and i do use rooting hormone you will get fantastic roots,i tried both ways some say you don't have to scar up a fig tree bark, duh yes you should, it pays off.and i scrape all the way around down to white wood i get awesome roots in 5-6 weeks,

I use Miracle-Gro potting mix it works very well for air layering, I usually see roots in just over four weeks in the summer.
