Last Fall we attended a Fig Fest hosted by the Louisiana members of our forum.  It was a great time had by all and I would like to see if there is sufficient interest to have a get together in Northeast Texas sometime in summer or late summer.

I would like to include our neighboring states as we are a near-border city close to Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and not too far from Memphis, Tn and Central Mississippi, and of course a representation from our friends both near and far, East and West Coast.  I have had some discussions with our local city officials and they are extremely interested.  I think this would be a great thing for our fig community and certainly would be a lot of fun.

There has been suggestions made about having city wide Fig contests to include a fig based cooking contest and a fig based drink contest,(alcohol and non).  A fig tasting and a judged tree show with sales of fig related stuff allowed.  In addition, I have made preliminary inquiries to Texas A&M concerning speakers, (they developed a few fig trees, BA-1, Alma, etc) and I haven't been told no.  If there is enough interest I will play my political card to insure their participation.

Anyway, if you are interested please email me or PM me as soon as possible.  I have set the end of March as the deadline for a decision.  If there isn't enough intrest for th "BIG FIG GIG" then I will have a more intimate get to together for my closest 100 fig friends, LOL

Danny...here's wishing you best success in your fig get together...I know I cant make it that far, but I know that if you organize it, then it will be the best fig happening so far.

Sounds fabulous. Great name. Never been to Texas before except the airport. Good reason to go, but can't.
