I will be rooting some fig cuttings for the first time in a couple days. I have heard and read different things from forums and videos online. I am wondering what the method that produces the most rooted cuttings. I have considered the moss container method. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I am very high on the Root Riot Cubes. One step to a one gallon pot and my success rate
has been very good.

newnandawg,

Do you use the clonex gel that comes in many of the kits? If you do how does that work?

I have done both. Appears more and stronger roots using the Clonex.

i follow more or less what jon's link shows. my success rate is rather high providing that i do not let the cutting stay in any one specific stage for very long time. once there is sign to move it to next stage, it should be done as soon as possible.

Jon, pertaining to the alternate cup method, does one pop holes in the bottom of the lower cup or on the lower sides of the lowest cup? I was thinking we pop the holes for drainage but would putting holes on the furthest down sides of the lower cup allow air circulation to increase rooting or do you think that would allow too much moisture loss. I like the taller 32 oz iced tea cups from DD so my cutting is mostly buried.

What I really like about this method (and I have little experience with it) is that the cutting can grow a visible larger roots mass before having to change it environment so the rooted cutting would have a better chance of surviving our errors.

And another plus is the cups are reusable unlike the bags (that I currently make with the food sealer and a box of old clear report covers) and root riot cubes, no additional ongoing costs other than the cuttings and selected medium.

I use this method which is the first link on the page Jon gave you.  It's very reliable.  I also use the clonex gel after scraping to expose the green cambium on the lower part of the cutting.  I think it produces roots faster, which gives better overall results.
