This may be the start of a good Fig Bonsai.  A Celeste that was cut 2 years ago.  Total height above soil is 9".  It seems to be growing nodes on nodes, all the growth you see is less than 2", it has not been pinched or trimmed in any way.  Not the greatest picts.

I do not know anything about Bonsai, this is simply a tree that has sat in the same place for two years and it has decided on a Bonsai way of life, who am I to interfere?

Danny (I earlier referred to you as Kirk. Sorry about that.) Do you think this is a sport? Are  you saying it was a cutting started two years ago? Does that mean you saw the mother tree? Does it look like it would make a good "dwarf" cultivar?

I think it has mites, they can get into the buds and destroy them. The leaves look spotty to me as well.

Why are there roots growing out all over?

There are no mites.
The cutting came from a 40 yr old Celeste here in town
The spots are probably MG
The hole is probably a handling thing
It sits under a 2 tube florescent bulb, straight from humidity bin to where it is now
This is not a primer on Bonsai
This is not a scientific experiment
This is a tree that sits under a light in a gallon jug that I use to show how a fig will root
I think it is the light
That's all there is to it, no biggy

Last November, I purchased a fig tree on eBay described as follows: 1 Dwarf Honey Fig 6+ inch tall Rooted Plant Cutting.
It is sitting in my living room for now. I did it for fun because it said Dwarf. Not sure what it is.
I guess if you keep a tree long enough in a small pot it'll either dry up or turn into a dwarf! LOL
I had purchased a dwarf mulberry kept it in the house. It started to die, so I moved it outside to a large container and it came back.
it should be interesting to see what this one will do.
Here's a current picture. 20140406Dwarf.JPG
