This tree is being auctioned off to benefit the new foundation.

It is a Col de Dame Blanc in a 1 gallon pot. The scion wood came from a private ranch in Ca. I have another one from UC Davis if you'd rather have that one. If you are the winning bidder I can forward additional pictures.

The bidding will start now and end at Noon EST on Sunday August 4rd.

I will announce the winning bid by 3:00 o'clock on Sunday. I will not name any private bidders.

You can bid here or by PMing me. I will announce all private bid amounts but not the bidder's name.

I will pay the shipping, but will not ship to CA,AZ, AK or HI nor will I ship outside the US.

Shipping will be second day by the USPS. I will supply you with a tracking number. I will not be responsible for the plant if it suffers from heat damage. If you want me to hold it until later in the year I'd be happy to do so.
If you want me to ship it any other way I'm also happy to do so but you will have to pay the shipping.

I will contact the winning bidder and explain how to pay the foundation directly. Once I receive word back that the payment has been made I'll ship your Col de Dame fig.

Have fun and good luck.

Thanks to Rafed for letting me copy most of his auction text.

This is great. Thank you for offering this auction. I am positive this will go far higher than my pay grade, but I'll get it started - $30.

Since it's ceramic you'd think she was an Earth Rooster, but she's too young for that.

Ann,
Yes that's my 4 1/2 y.o. Australian Shepherd named Mosby. He's my buddy and goes everywhere with me. Great breed. I've had 7 of them (and lot's of puppies).
Fetch -- I had a pair of Himalayans that fetched but no other breeds I've had.

I have a big male cat we got from the shelter that's part siamese and he love's to fetch too.  Looked it up online and they mentioned siamese like to do that.  Interesting trait, wonder how that happened.

Ann,
I'm a big fan of herding dogs. Unfortunately Mosby doesn't have anything to herd right now. The breed is known for being able to herd anything. I had 4 on the farm my x and I had and they were funny as heck when trying to herd our myotonic (fainting) goats. This one is a real sweet heart. He'll even go with me to my doctor's office in the AM. He's very gentle but he will kill squirrels if they get near my figs. Everything else he just toys with.

F4L,
Col de Dames are late ripeners and are probably borderline as far as keeping outside. I've never tried as all my trees are in pots. I did a little searching and I got different results, so I'm not comfortable saying one way or the other. I did root a number of these little guys, though, so I could try them in ground in 3 years or so. They definitely need a spot with as much warmth as your property will allow as they need plenty of heat. The really great figs need some pampering I suppose.

Why goats?? cheese for your figs ??
Mosby must be bored without his goats ..

Ann,
Good job - I'm glad we are at least raising a decent amount for the foundation.

Myotonic goats are the only goats I will ever keep for meat. Because of the various changes in body type due to the mutation(s) that causes the goats to "faint" they don't like to climb as much and are extremely easy to keep fenced. I've had a bunch of different breeds and only the "fainters" are easy to keep. As you know goats are escape artists and will cause a lot of damage when they get out.
Plus - they are easy to catch --if you yell at them they "faint".

Cheese - no actually meat. And I much prefer sheep cheese anyway.

Mosby and the goats didn't over lap. He's only 4 y.o. When I finally get my next and hopefully last farm I may get some fainting goats for meat and cleaning up brush and briars, but the milk breeds of goats are just too much hassle. If you ever have to catch 50 goats and weigh and worm and trim hooves and have several escape, etc. you'll curse having the darn things. And if you have billy goats you will smell like a goat for days no matter what you do. I do have a fantasy about having a few sheep to milk and I love camels. Camel milk goes for $50 a gallon and we should start seeing camel dairies popping up as their milk is amazing. If you like llamas - you'll love camels.

Anyway -- yeah poor Mosby hasn't got a darn thing to herd but his cat. I've thought of getting him a few sheep but the house I'm in now has a HOA that's pretty hard core. A good friend of mine had 2 pugs and Mosby loved herding them. They kind of look like sheep/pig crosses.

best,
mgg

Congrats Mike on a successful auction.
You know how passionate I am about helping Jon and the Foundation. He is helping assure our kids and grand kids and future generations get to enjoy this wonderful fruit.

Ann,
Thank you for helping support the Foundation and good luck.

I used to have a Siamese cat ( Bush ). Was a cool dude and kept to himself. Then the stupid Siberian Husky moved in and he decided to move out. Looked all over for him.

Rafed,
Thanks. We still have until Sunday at noon but it seems like the time may have been a bit long for an auction as now Ann's bidding against herself.

Go Ann Go!

I'll sweeten the pot with something so Ann is a happy figger.

And BTW your 187-25 now has 3 leaves so I'm pretty confident it'll be a healthy little plant and you can take that one off your wish list. I'll keep until September just to make sure - and then I'll ship.

thx again
mgg
