I'm pretty positive this is a kadota from all the pictures and topics I have seen on the forum and online. I just want to get some second opinions. __________________ NJ z7a Wish list :

71GTO, The fig and leaves resemble my Kadota. Attached is a picture of the leaves of one plant. I probably will not get any ripe figs this year due to winter dieback (of 3 different plants), but your fig pictures match my figs from last year. Also the skin on the figs were a little tough and chewy, though edible.

Pattee, The figs grow in "clusters" when the nodes are close together, it looks like clusters. One of my kadota produced many twin figs at each leaf node and last year it looked like clusters, I thought that I lost the plant due to winter dieback, but it has just now started to re grow. Attached is a picture of "fig cluster" in another cultivar (the plant was root bound, it was probably more than a year old in a 1 gallon container, when I got it). Personally I try to avoid clusters and close node spacing, IMO it usually means that the plant is growing slowly due to a cultural issue or disease (FMD). Thanks Pete , I had no idea about the cluster/cultural issue. This tree was been up potted (10 gal) and been watered/fertilized regularly. This was the 2nd year I've had this tree and the amount of figs doubled this year. I'll have to check the roots this fall to see if it needs up potting again.
