I decided to start this topic, as opposed to adding to the 'Sultane or Sultani' topic, to avoid confusion. This is not Sultane, a French variety. Sultani is a name give to this Unknown by a former SoCal member. It was supposed to have originated in Persia, now Iran. Anyway, those who have it are hoping to find out if it is a common fig, or needs the wasp. I posted pics of a ripe Sultani on the other topic, and stated that I do not believe I have the wasp in my area as of yet. Well, I have just picked the 2nd ripe fig from this plant, and a 3rd is close to ripening. I tried to separate the seeds to see if they float. They do. They look very undeveloped though, more like embryos. It is a delicious fig, and I'm keeping it. Following are pics, the ripe one I just picked, the other that is almost ripe, and inside look of the ripe one.

Thank for posting, Gary!
It is good to know that it might be a Common fig.

Thanks for posting this, Gary. All of my figs on this one have dropped except one tiny fig clinging to a branch, and our weather has turned colder and rainy so I expect nothing out of it this year. Richie, did yours ever produce?

You're welcome, Ed. I just picked the 3rd, and I was thinking last Sultani, but now others are swelling up. This one tasted great, though the skin got tough for some reason. I hope it turns out to be a common type, which is what I think.

Eli - at least mine has both spade like and 3 lobed leaves. Frank Q. - do you have the wasp in your neighborhood? Mine has still one of the little quarter sized elongated baby figs hanging on, but it is supposed to frost here by the weekend. I was planning on shipping this one to someone else but I believe I will give it another year.

eboone, We are supposed to have wasps everywhere but both my Zidi (14 month old) dropped their fruit. I will float the seeds when Sultani finally ripens. I'll post the results.

When young plant, the leaves are single and three-lobed but I have seen them change into five-lobed leaves. They are very healthy plants.

I guess we can't avoid those wasps in Los Angeles. Couldn't conduct the experiment. All the seeds have sunk. Figs are pollinated in our garden. Remains to be seen how it performs in non-wasp country.

I had to save this one from the rain.
Although the Ostiole on this variety is pretty tightly closed I didn't want to take a chance.
Tastwise it was very rich in flavor. Could use another 4-5 days probably but still was really good.
Reminded me of ripe nectarine with a hint of acidity which I think would change as it rioens more.
