My RdB has some figs on it that I assume are starting to ripe. The figs swelled up and turned red now going to almost jet black. Tho they are getting black and soft none are displaying the tell tell hangmans neck. No drooping at all. What are the tell tell signs this fig is ripe.

On ours they get many cracks in the skin and soft. If yours do not get cracks in skin at least you want them as soft as a feather type pillow. Cut one open when time comes you want a nice deep reddish color to pulp of a ronde fig. Be very patient as well ! This time of year with cooler nights the figs in general take longer to fully ripen.

My RdB's didn't "hang" either, but were getting very soft. I figured it's because they were so small that they didn't weigh enough to droop. Still, I probably picked them a day or two early.

They have almost no neck, don't expect them to drop like most figs. Just feel them if they're soft they're ready.

Ok soft is good. Are we looking for cracking, seaping from the eye. And I assume when they are black not red.
