My wife has family in the South of France (Provence).  She told me about the island Porquerolles, near Marseille, that has an orchard with over 100 varieties of Fig trees.  I hope to go there in the next year or two.

Here's a picture of a fig tree growing out of a Palm tree trunk.  Figs will survive!

Cool picture.  It's amazing how fig trees will survive almost anywhere except in my backyard...lol.  Y'all keep your fingers crossed that my newly transplanted LSU Tiger survives the 100+ days for the next 2 weeks.

There is a conservatory there, found this on wiki, neat stuff.

"Today the conservatory manages 180 hectares of agricultural land, as well as three vineyards, and preserves several collections of rare varieties of olive trees (more than 500 trees), fruit trees including stone fruit and citruses, mulberry, fig trees, and palm trees, with a particular emphasis on heritage varieties that serve as a gene reserve. It also conserves some 2,000 plant genes in its seed bank."
