Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a picture of one of my Takoma Violet cuttings that is doing really well which has also decided to push a baby fig out. Is this normal, by the way? Should I leave it or take it off? This is my first season rooting cuttings and it has been going well thanks to such an informative forum like this which is also filled with very knowledgeable and helpful members. Lastly, I haven't formally introduced myself, so I'll go ahead and do that now. My name is Ryan and I live around the Tampa Bay area in Florida. I ran into the forum while researching how to care for my Brown Turkey but somehow found myself coming back over and over because I found such fascination with all of the different varieties and how easy it was to propagate them. Now, 2 months later, I've slightly increased my collection from that 1 Brown Turkey to 49 varieties :-p I honestly don't know what happened, how I ended up where I am now and this new hobby. I don't think it was the fig bug that got me, I think it was the FMV that did LOL.

Welcome! Definitely take that figlet off. You want the plant's energy going to roots and leaves. Let it get healthy and strong, then get figs.

Hi Ryan and welcome. Nice figlet you got there. I think it better to remove the figs the first year from what i have read. Forces the plant to grow bigger and work on the roots.

Ryan, yes, sever that little cutie, and put a humidity dome, an upside down cup with holes for venting over... until you have leaves, or the top wil dry up... energy, as already said, should be on the roots...

Ong, Grasa, GRamaley, and Blake thank you!!! It was a little tough to do it but I did it. I guess the saying, "True love hurts," perfectly applies here, for me and the plant. LOL!
