Someone got the BIN but he has others for auction. He says they're large but as far as I know they're small.

Picture of fruit has watermark signature. Doesn't appear to be "Homegrown".

How many years has ST Rita been in the U.S. I posted the same question in the other current St Rita thread currently Prior to seeing this thread. They stated it's a 10 year tree, and I don't recall talk on this cultivar before a couple years ago, so I hestitated, but a couple more New Years drinks overcame my hesitation and I am the BIN winner or sucker?

Strudeldog About 3 or 4 years ago I got several dozen cuttings from the original source that I distributed to various fig friends here at the time. I am sure someone you know here in the forum may have it and hope he or she will help you. Mine suffered a bit so I need it to grow a bit more before I offer anything to anyone. I hope you didn't pay much for yours.

Fyi:I wrote to the ebayer giggreentractor. He replied :
Apparently there may be a discrepancy as to the age of my tree. I purchased my home with this tree and the owner disclosed it's variety. however. the tree appears to be older than the variety itself, I will be removing the add until the confusion is resolved. thank you and sorry for any inconvenience.

Asfor me, FYI, i purchased one from the original "disoverer" R.dushaj on ebay. There are still St. Ritas on ebay up for bid from him.

I wrote to him as well, but have not received a response as yet. The response to you sounds like he might just be misinformed, but I will wait and see what response I get.

if i'm not mistaken, St. Rita came from italy. the tree belongs to robert's neighbor who brought it from italy. the town's patron saint is St. Rita and they named it as such. i got mine from robert directly yr before last. one fig i had off the tree was amazing. robert doesn't come to the forum often now days. you might want to try emailing him if you want. he's a super nice guy.

Robert still sells on ebay. I bought a Genovese Nero plant from him fall 2012 and it has done well. His dark unknown looks good also. I would ask for a refund for your purchase and wait until you see him list it. unless another member has some extra cuttings they could share with you. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

Or maybe the original owner of the home was from the same town and brought cuttings from the same tree. Grow it and see what happens. Maybe it'll be the next Maltese Beauty. Who's watermark is in the photo?

I got my response. He seems to have gotten some emails from folks on the history of the cultivar, but his latest response to me after I called him on some facts was “I do not know where the prior owner of my home purchased the tree start all I know is what was disclosed to me and I am quite certain of the variety. I have lived at my home for 5 years and the tree was established 3-5 years before that.” And those don’t appear to be his own pictures. One has a watermark and another is on another auction present titled “Georgia Fig 4 fruit Tree” by a different seller.
I have overall had a very negative day on several fronts, and really don’t need another headache, and no it’s not because I celebrated the New Year, that comment about the couple more drinks, was just poking fun at myself for being naive. I had not a drink. It just isn’t worth the trouble as he states he as already purchased the postage and doesn’t seem inclined to cancel the transaction. I will just move on from it. Don’t worry if by chance they root I will not try to trade them off as St. Rita. I am not naming a new fig, but my personal labeling will be “Unk Satan Rita”

I can understand the frustration. strudel, Just know these things happen to the best of us. It has happened to me on more than one occasion. It's better to know now than to findout a year or two or even longer down the road. Like I said in an earlier post. Someone you know might have it and might help you. Otherwise reserve your bidding/buying with people whom you already know in the future. The saying goes, if it's too good to be true it probably is. Good luck

Its really sad that dishonesty and simply unknowing has clouded ebay and even some well known sources. If not 100% sure it should state that in the listings. Not only does this add to the fig confusion, but creates distrust in the fig buying and selling world.

well.. there is money to be made in fig. some will take advantage of that situation to line their pockets. there is no hurry in collecting the figs. go with people you can trust and sooner or later all those ebay sellers will go away.

I agree pete, it just sadens me. I myself sell figs on ebay, not really to make a buck formyself but rather for a few charities via missionfish. Money. Imo is the root of all evil in the world, which leads to greed and power.
I was just on ebay looking and seen a st.rita cuttings listed by robert 1 day and a few hours left on it. Bid I think is 9 bucks right now.

I'm no expert by any means, however when I look at His photo of the tree . . . the preponderance of leaves appear to be 3 lobed . . and the pics of the st rita I see on the forum here are clearly 5 lobed leaves. The seller is clear he cannot identify the tree . . . it's supposed to be his favorite fig, and I don't doubt his sincerity. But @ $18 a pop for an unknown . . well . . I'll leave it at that . just my 2 cents

Yes, He has revised his listing to state his uncertainty and lowered the price, after communications. The original auction stated they were St. Rita, and had additional pictures. I have had further communication with the seller and don't believe he intended to mislead as some have in the past. I have advised him to remove all references to St. Rita just describe his fig with actual pictures of his fig. I am past this and received a lesson and some good advise here, which my better sense already knew. I actually thought I recognized the seller name. Is there not a reputable forum member here with a similar Ebay Name with tractor in it? Best Figs to all

Sorry Strudledog . . ha ha . . like that handle didn't mean to add to your misery . . .I was replying to Gascony's initial post . . . I'll tell ya, I've made a few bad purchases on eBay myself like a 64 Dodge pickup that was advertised in being near pristine shape . . turned out to be a leaking wheezebag on it's last legs . . Ouch!
