Yesterday, we were on our way to visit our newly born twin grad daughters.
Just before the Garden State Parkway south entrance, we hit a pot hole on a side street.
My fear came true just as we entered the GSP - a pot-hole flat tire!
No problem, we have a spare, and after pulling aside, it should be easy to fix.
But NO, after jacking up the car, the recently moved wheel would not budge out
(I guess it got warped/deformed).
I kicked and hammered it with the nut-tool as best I could - then I gave up.
We called AAA - they do not service emergencies on the GSP!?!
They gave us a phone# for the GSP people who in turn said someone will come
within 30 minutes. So far so good; and waiting...

In the meantime, I noticed a white little car stop on the shoulder an ~hundred feet ahead.
Then it reversed towards us, and a young man got out; us asking if we need help.
After explaining the grief; he did as I did, PLUS kicking (backwards) the tire with the heel
of his boots (more forceful - not just like I did, like kicking a soccer ball!).

YES Virginia!
USA still has some GOOD helping people out there (God bless them all)!

Mucho thanks, ... we were on our way again ...

Of course, we (asap) called the GSP people saying that problem had cleared,
but we later learned that they (shame on them) did not forward that same info
to the poor tow-truck-guy that actually came to our voided rescue (go figure!) ...

Also, the newly elected mayor of NYC, is boasting that he fixed 18 - 20,000 pot holes.

Unfortunately, yours was # 20,001.

Sorry your joyous meeting was delayed.

Knowing politicians, when he said 18-20,000. They probably only fixed 19 pot holes.......

There's a stretch of I-75 in Oakland county Michigan during the spring and summer the highway workers do a rolling convoy by blocking a lane or two at a time almost every other day to patch the pot holes.
Only problem is they're not patching anything. Just running up the tax payers bill.

Their would be a convoy of three to five truck and roughly two to four workers in each of the trucks and only one or two workers actually doing the work.

Potliticians are the same everywhere.

The worst weeks are coming soon for the frequent fast thawing and freezing cycles on the roads in the northeast causing potholes and other problems to the roads and to many car parts connected to the wheels.
After that comes the fig time .. big times.

Glad you made it okay. Pot holes are so bad this year after the snow and ice.

ah, the lovely GSP! Well, the GSP is becoming privatized section by section now so cannot blame it all on government workers :) 
it is a shame in NJ,most drivers do not care and will pass you by.
A great example of people on the GSP, Instead of "caution, slow down", A yield sign coming onto the Parkway in NJ means"put your foot on the gas as hard as you can, and just hope when you merge in to the oncoming Parkway traffic, the other cars will just jam on their brakes and you will be ok!"

It is good that some good people are still here in NJ to help!

I'm so happy to be out of MI. The roads there are horrible not only due to generally bad weather and lack of maintenance but also due to the higher axle loads they allow on trucks.

The pot holes we are seeing here in the Garden State of New Jersey this year are divots compared to the yearly winter moonscape I had to navigate while I lived in MI.

I love your pic/illustration of how our big government does (in one way) waste our huge tax-dollars.

The non-government managed GSP is clean of pot holes (thanks to tolls).
(We hit one just before the entrance.)

Today, we got our car fixed back; a replaced tire and the wheel-bend hammered back.

Moral of the story:
Northeast people pl. do watch out for them pot-holes!
And as Ottawan said; most likely they will be getting worse soon.

Also and more important; always help each other out in any emergency; whatever it may be ...

A few years ago, I had an idea for a pothole detecting app using the accelerometer and GPS systems in smartphones. But I am not a programmer, so I could not do anything with the idea. Since then, I found out the city of Boston has done it.

Someone here in Michigan wants to legalize marajauna and use the taxes from it to fix the potholes.
Hence: pot for potholes.

Slim Jim and Doritos stocks will fly through the roof if that bill ever passes.

There is that huge Frito's plant on I-94 in Allen Park. That place will probably double in size.

I don't think that's there anymore. There is a place near my house in Sterling Heights though.
I think that's where they moved.

But that big tire is still there.

I think that every pot hole should have a BT twig planted in it.
Imagine that - figs taking over the roads...
