Hey, I've been following the forum for a while but just signed up. I was introduced to figs when I was very young. We lived with my grandparents, for a while, and my grandfather had a couple of fig trees. The birds got most of them but I can remember eating them fresh off the tree and having "rescued" figs (with a peck taken out) ripening on the windowsill. About 15 years ago I read something that got me interested in growing figs and I bought a "dwarf fig tree". It never did much and I didn't follow up by researching how to get it to do better. I kept it in a pot and started cuttings that I tried in the ground or gave away. One friend I gave a cutting to put it in her greenhouse. It put a root down through the hole in the pot and took off. She loves to rib me about that "dwarf" tree that's making a vigorous effort to take over the whole greenhouse. Anyway, I brought the tree to KY about 5 years ago, up-potted it to a 30 gal pot and left it on an open porch. That porch shares a slab with a room with underfloor heat and enough heat leaks through that pots up against that wall don't freeze. the plant would freeze back (even when wrapped) but it would come back up. It would set fruit but I'd miss watering it for a day or two and it would drop them. Till last year... we had a mild winter and wet spring and it came out with a bumper crop of really sweet figs. Seeing that little bush produce that many figs fired me up to do more with figs. I found F4F and learned that I'd been doing everything wrong. (if it weren't for the hard way I wouldn't learn anything at all). So now I'm trying again. I've bought cuttings of five different variety's. (still looking for Florea and JH Adriatic) They're in cups now and seem to be coming along fine. I want to get some going in the ground but plan on keeping potted backups. It should be interesting.

Congrats, your on your way to full blown addiction! Sorry I don't have the varieties you're looking for but surely someone here does. Good luck and enjoy the adventure!

Welcome to the forum. As a note figs do not ripen after being picked.

Hello, Tom. If you're living in Kentucky, you need to find the other figgers on the forum close to you.

Hello Tom, Welcome! I predict by this time next year you will be looking for more places to put your fig plants. I'm here a year. I came here thinking figs came in 3 flavours. Kadota, Mission, and Brown Turkey. As soon as Spring springs I'll post what I'll have to offer. Happy figging Soni
