1/2" cutting w/roots & shoot?

So I found this little stub, 1/2" long in my moss box today when I was getting some moss out! I really didn't think this could happen. It is a piece I trimmed off waaay back in January. I guess it fell in there & I didn't catch it to throw it away. Who even knows what kind it is. Should I just try & plant it like it is? Poor guy obviously has the will to make it..... It has a long white root. Its on the left hand side of the pic in the moss but visible :) Nothing to lose is true, I still can't believe it! you never know... last year I bought some bareroot elderberry plants. One of the plants had a 2 in long root that had broken off in planting. I had nothing to lose, so I planted it. Nothing appeared to happen for months, then suddenly it sent up a shoot. By the end of summer it was 2 ft tall and more shoots coming up at the base. So I say those little impossible cuttings might just do it. Pot it and leave it, for the whole season if needed. Don't judge that it didn't make it too soon. It may take a while but maybe it will produce a nice little tree. __________________ Zone 7b (Central Arkansas) Seven trees in the ground: Hardy Chicago, Celeste(?), LSU gold, Italian Black, Southern Brown Turkey(?), Strawberry Verte, and Unk yellow. Trees in pots: VdB, CdD, and Sicilian?

If it has a root give it some dilute fertilizer - houseplant strength or weaker. Super porous soil. Maybe coarse, rinsed perlite plus 25% peat moss. Smaller cuttings have grown into fruitful trees. I am going to give it a try tomorrow. Hopefully I can be gentle and not break off any of the roots as they are thin.
