Welcome!  If you search for Tapla you'll get all the soil info you could ask for.  There should be some customization depending on your climate.  Where are you?

Hey there Rich welcome and nice meeting you. Looks like you're off to a pretty good start.  I wish you a fantastic growing season.

Everyone pretty much has their own mixture of what they like and what works best in their climate. It usualy consists of potting soil, perlite, compost. Peat moss is also something you can add to the mixture.
I use some bone meal near the bottom of the pots to help the root system get going.

What you want to make sure of is good drainage. You don't want water sitting in the pots for days.

Welcome to the forum, plenty knowledge and good peeps here. One thing I've learned for sure is you can't use enough sifted perlite in your soil for at least the first 6 months of its life. When cupping you can go with all sifted perlite. Just my 2 cents! Have fun;)

Welcome Rich60,
In which usda zone are you ?
As for pot culture, is it because of the cold ? Do have penguins walking in your garden in the winter ? :P
