Cotio Verdeal (white) and Violeta (black)
Two of the most tasty Portuguese figs sporting their true colors and shapes. Both very much juicy when pollinated by the little Blastophaga, very appetizing and colorfull insides, crunchy and full of berry aromas.

Francisco, those look like perfect figs! May I ask, how many trees do you grow? Do you have a farm? Are there fig trees all around where you live? Thank you;   Gary in CA

I like living vicariously through your photos.  After many figs shriveling and falling off I have 2 that are close to ripe  :)

They are both good looking but Verdeal is my favourit looking fig because of the green outer skin and red interior (more greener skin than the greenish looking ones).
Is Cotio Verdeal different than "Verdeal".
Also there is Verdal (listed in F4F Varietal pages) and Verdeal. Do you have any info if it is just a spelling difference or different varieties?

Thank you ALL for your kind commenting on this post

Gary,

In your area may be you could duplicate these figs. Believe all ingredients are there.
To answer your question I must say that the old small farm was sold Feb 2014. As of Jan 2012 rooting some new varieties in a family plot as well as playing with a few potted figs. The figs shown on this topic are close to extinction.

@Bob,

You must really love figs so much. Sorry for that difficult climate.One day you must move more to the sun side and then most of the problems are solved

@Ottawan,

Last year, Nelson posed this same question, I may be wrong but here, Verdeal is a shallow Smyrna type, rather large, with a 'jade' green skin and a rich deep red pulp with many tiny seeds..There are apparently another Common fig called Verdeal. I cannot show any of these.(also very rare now). Verdal is a Spanish fig variety, different from Verdeal

@Feigenbaum,

Thank you Christian.. The weather has been optimum this season for figs.
Pode bem dizer que é o Céu dos figos mas infelizmente muito pouca gente lhe dá o seu real valor

@kausikck76,
You are right. Me too, I have a weak point for the dark figs

Francisco
