Hey thanks great links!
From the neat photo of the heirloom figs I see a nespola(loquait) or is it?
Unfortunately no chance of growing them in Zone 6?

Unless you live in Puerto Rico...or at best in Key West... There is no chance of successfully growing a Nespero (Nespola) . Wonderful tree. There is a 150 year old specimen growing in the atrium of the El Convento Hotel in Viejo San Juan. It is 3 stories high!

Ciao, Joe

Tami hi Fico means fig and fichi is the plural i think .

i wish i had nespole here they ae special.. although i heard they need cold to fully blet.
can they-medlar trees be grafted on a loquat?

any members have some spare scions?

Medlar for sure can survive cold weather , maybe loquat cant...

Hey Eli,
I know Fico means fig but on the comments someone used fica and everyone thought it was so funny and were mentioning it meant something else. I want to know what it means.

A mature loquat tree is definitely 7a hardy.  You just won't get any fruits in may/june if the winter gets below about 18 degrees F.

Especially desired figs: UCD 187-25, UCD 200-48, UCD 157-17, UCD 309-B1, Princesa, Black Madeira, high quality sugar fig that ripens Sept-Oct.

Probable desired fig: Smith, St Jean, JH Adriatic, CddB, Gulbun, Pastilliere, Sucrette

Rooting:  Smith, CDDB--this pretty much means I have my fun tries (tho' important since they are truly desirable), and only interested for this year: Gulbun, BM, 187-25, or something wildly exotic or precious that nobody has any good reason to send me.

Hi Java,

"Fico" is Italian for fig.

"Fica" is Portuguese for fig.

"Higo" is Spanish for fig.

They are all based on "Ficus," Latin for fig.

Ciao,

Joe
