Hi All
I'm looking to plant 1 or 2 fig trees that I've mentioned in the title for in ground.
Which of these trees are good for zone 6b NYC?
Also, has anyone tasted any of these and how do you rate them.
Which of these taste the best?
Thank you

Adriano kept his Genovese Nero for over 20 yrs in pot culture and he has told me many times it is amongst his best if not the best.

Adriano grows it in pot culture. If grown in ground, looks with U may never get to enjoy any figs from it.

Vasilika Sika (assuming it is the one related to Dalmatie) should be relatively cold hardy. My understanding is that Smith is not very cold hardy. I'm not sure about the others but would be curious to know as well. I haven't tasted any of these five yet but all get good reviews on taste from forum members growing them under a variety of conditions. In order to really know how to rank them by taste you will probably need to trial them yourself under your own conditions.

Hi figs4life, Where are you planting the trees ? To open field ? To a backyard ? near your house close to a wall near your heating system ? I'm in Zone7, and seeing how Dalmatie is doing for me, I would expect that you'll have a hard time in ground in Zone6 . You for sure she will need a good winter protection. How (long) is your tomato growing season ? - if you're season is too short, you won't probably get ripe figs from Dalmatie ... For "Got de mel" assuming it is related to "goutte d'or", the reviewing of that strain is still ongoing for me inground in Zone7. As for now - if they don't drop, which to my small experience of "goutte d'or" is still a risk-, my biggest "Goutte d'or" is exposing big brebas... Those would get every man to lose his sanity. Really, Saturday, when checking my trees, I got really impressed with what I saw - no other strain has that big figs at this time of the year. As for now, if you have the choice, I would advise you to go "goutte d'or" instead of Dalmatie - Bear in mind, that I'm still waiting to taste the figs of "Goutte d'or" - She's 3 yo this year starting the 4th. My "Goutte d'or" was bought as a bush, and I did split her in 3 . One of the two smaller as currently 4 brebas ... And two are yellowing - that drives me crazy too :) . The other 3 strains are unknown to me - The Atlantic wall's effect :( .

Gota de Mel... never heard of it, but it seems its meaning is drop of honey. seems we have good number of figs dripping honey when ripen. would love to see what this one looks like.
