I am looking to plant one of my fig trees inground this year. When should I plant it. It is still dormant although the buds look like they my open anytime now. Should I wait until there is no risk of cold temperatures which would be around Memorial day?

If you are going to cut the roots because they are circling it is probably best to do it before it leafs out too much. Is it a big tree?

I don't know if there's a rule, but I'm treating mine like tomatoes if that helps.

Last year, I planted several newly rooted cuttings at the end of May and early June.  They were leafed out and adjusted pretty quickly to the ground.  Most did really well last year, adding 3' of growth.  A few were slow to grow, but nothing died.
