Finished picking Muscadines today and wondered over to the fig nursery hoping to score a couple of tasty figs. Had a couple of decent Sal's and noticed that my Calvert, Deanna, and Sucrette all had nice large, swollen figs not yet ripe. Since rain was starting and expected to be heavy tonight I determined it would be best to put them under roof in the hoop house. As I picked up the last one I happened to notice one of the four figs on my nearby JH Adriatic had gotten ripe without me or the resident tree rat being aware of it! There it was on the lowest limb, hanging straight down, heavy with juice and sugar, with those sugar spots all over it, kinda ugly in a way. I think my heart rate increased. Here was a fig I had heard so much about and I was going to get to taste it for the first time from my own little two year tree! Just as I reached down to get it I happened to jostle the tree with my knee and it either dropped or “jumped” into my hand. It was mushy, but not split. Was it going to be ruined? As quick as that I tore it open and plopped half in my mouth. OMG!!!!!! Then the other half. The closest thing to a religious experience I have had lately. Yes I have had many good figs this year. (MBVS, Sals, Calvert, Verte, Scotts Black, Malta Black, RDB, and several others) This fig wins hands down! I don't want a better fig, I just want a lot more of this fig. If you don't have this fig and live where you can grow it, beg, borrow, steal, buy, or trade for one now! (No, I don't have any for sale. Just the one, which is now going to get a lot more attention from me.) Yes, I had my phone in my shirt pocket, never even occurred to me to take a picture.

Good growing, JHA is one of the best, no need for any others?? This says a lot about the quality and taste of this variety. Congrats.

I'm waiting to get my hands on this one, every review just makes me want it more!

Dave, herman2 said that Adriatic JH is not at all Adriatic. He said maybe White Madeira if there is such a thing.

Yes, I have 3 little babies, one of which bore 6 figs (i know, not supposed to do this, but what the hell). It was good. Will only get better. Possibly the best White fig, especially for northern states. Congrats!

Good reading. We are also thrilled when we find a fig we weren't expecting to be there.

Let us know when that Sucrette gets ripe. We have a couple plants grown from Jon's cuttings that grew very well this year and we are hoping for fruit next year.

I agree this is a great one. I had several today that were like candy. The skin itself has an especially good flavor.

I'd also say that it is my best tasting white fig by far. I have three larger trees and might add a few more for next year.

4bgood, I see you are in Virginia.  I'm nearby in Maryland and I totally agree that JH Adriatic is a great fig for our area.  I've had three so far this season off of my two year old JH Adriatic (in-ground) and have been totally impressed.  A very rich flavor.  I'm hoping for more warm weather so I can get even more ripe ones.
