Hi everyone,

Been reading the forum for a while now but never posted. I am from N. California bay area (9b).
I currently have a Brown Turkey, White Kadota, and Mission Black in pots I started this year with 5-1-1 mix. Getting some Desert King cuttings this week that im going to try Rich's method on. I hope to keep adding to my collection.
Any suggestions on other varieties to acquire next?

Thanks,
Eric

Welcome, Eric.

What part of the Bay Area are you located in?  What Sunset zone are you in?  Some areas of the Bay Area don't get very warm but also don't get very cold (and fall into USDA zone 9b).

Thanks,
I am on the border of zone 17 and 15. City of Hayward. I am in the hills and we do get a fair amount of wind. Rarely freezes here and temps of high 90s to 100 in the summer

Eric, Hayward has a long history of fig culture.  Caprifigs were being grown in Niles by 1900 (Niles later became part of Hayward).  If you have enough room, you should add many more varieties of figs and it's hard to decide.  Search older threads, there are several where folks list their favorite varieties for a given year.  Some of the most popular varieties right now can be fairly pricey, so set your budget before going shopping.

I like the way you think! I'm already earmarking space in the backyard for pots.

Wow that's very cool to hear. I think the weather here would be great for figs. I do have a fair amount of room and hope to acquire a few dozen varieties.
