All the fig trees kept in my unheated garage died this year. It was a major loss. " target="_blank">http:// [IMG][/IMG]

Not a pretty sight, is it? Sorry that you had such heavy losses. The winter took its toll on many fig trees, but that's little consolation when you are faced with the loss of your own dead trees. Sincere wishes for a better fig season. Frank

Gotta insulate the garage or use a small heater, as I do.

Hi Kalymnos, In which USDA zone are you ? I would wait until July before tossing them. Put them full sun and water them. They could still bounce back.

Did you scratch the bark on the lower part of the trunk to see if there was any green? I agree don't get rid of them yet - some roots may be alive and new growth may push from them. Keep them fertilized and keep your fingers crossed ! I still have about four trees that are showing nothing , but the trunk is green.

I thought I had a dead tree too but just today I noticed it's putting up a shoot. No green buds but a shoot from the roots, so I would hang on to those.

Hi, My Black Jack fig tree that I had in my unheated garage also got hit with the arctic blast and I thought I lost it, but it was not totally dead. Just the branches were impacted. I cut it down to the trunk and am currently awaiting new shoots.

I would put them inside of a large garbage can and water them with some fish fertilizer or miracle grow that has that hormone to stimulate new roots, soak them very well for about 20 min.... and keep on watering them, I bet you they will come back. I have some I planted a year ago, large airlayers. they appeared to be dead also, with watering and warmer days, they are pushing nodes for leaves. I hope yours do too. they will. Best luck.

Hello All, Thank you everyone for your sympathy and advice. I will not be getting rid of anything until probably August. I will keep them watered and fertilized for a few months. I'm in zone 5b. :-)
