Here's one I've never heard of...Dewar.

Small leafed fig trees from Walmart.

Anyone have a clue?

Does the label say it is from Agristarts in Apopka?  If it is I can find out more details for you as I know the general manager.

Does that plant have a sprawling habit? And do you think it might be a dwarf? Those small leaves look a lot like my Wilmington Creeper that I got from a local nursery. They told me they got their rooted cuttings from an unnamed (they forgot who) Florida grower. I had never seen anything like it before, but those photos look similar. If it is the same plant, yours will cascade over the pot's rim and never grow upward much.

Pete, you may be on to something...whiskey infused figs.

Willis, I will have to look but I googled Florida Nurseries and it turned up Dewar Nurseries in Apopka.

Not much info on the site for the fig, huh? I once found a really exotic-looking fern at a garden center. I asked the salesgirl, "What variety is it?" She scrambled to ask her boss and returned to confidently tell me, "It's a fern!"

Might be FMD's (remains to be seen) but definitely not my Creeper. My fig will never grow that large or that upright. It is more like a groundcover than a tree.

Today I got a Dewar fig tree from Wal Mart. It has several figs on it.

Did anybody have these mature fruit and can report on them, or determine a likely suspect for another name?  I saw one today it was at Walmart. Thinking it might be Galicia Negra!! yah right

It's a walmart thing lately.  My local walmart had magnolia, "ischia," black mission, and brown turkey.  Another user suggested they might be from "Agristarts."  If you check out their website, they only sell 13 varieties and those 4 are on the list, and they label their ischia green as "ischia".  They do tissue culture figs, from my understanding, and they definitely look funny.  I'm sure they're fine though.

Not sure if they fruit well...but they look FMV free, which is a plus.

If figs are like orchids then the tissue culture will not eliminate the virus unless they started with virus free plants or spent a lot of money on cutting edge culture process.  There has been limited success with true meristemming of orchids infected with virus and then culturing it in sterile medium in the presences of aniti-viral drugs.  The trick is to grow a few hundred in hopes that a few will have grown from virus free tissue.  Most are still virus plants and get toss.  The virus free plant material can then be re-cultured to produce virus free clones.

There certainly is a lot to be learned about FMV. From Agristarts website:

If the figs turn out to be lousy and the leaves remain small...think: "bonsai".  Just an idea.

Was just at a Walmart and saw a fig tagged as Dewar fig. The only other figs they had were tagged Magnolia. No one knew anything about Dewar (not surprised). I came home and called Dewar in FL. Seems the rootstock they got, thousands were not tagged correctly and thus they tagged them as Dewar Fig aka "Not Sure Fig". Gal said it had to be either magnolia or brown turkey. Glad I didn't buy it as I be back at the return counter, not needing a brown turkey.

dewar.jpg I did the research on line. The fig on the far right is the breba. The one on the left is the fall season fig and the one in the middle is a sport from one of the two trees. You can not buy this variety of fig tree at Walmart despite previous reports. If you think eating a VdB is heaven, try one of these babies!  Joe
