I got this as a cutting back in 2012. It is supposed to be a certain white fig that I really wanted at the time. Well I put it in the greenhouse this winter so I'd get a head start on this plant. Well this surely is not the fig that I wanted. Barely sweet and watery. Looks a lot like a Brown Turkey, they can be very delicious with a lot of sun. But they are finicky, don't over-water it, it will taste horrible. __________________ Armando in the Heart of California

Art, your fig has purple lining between the skin and the Meat...Do you get Wasps there in PA?

Art, good time to thin out. If you do not like it, dump it. You have a lot of other good figs.

Interesting thing this Purple lining effect... Although even Francisco (lampo) has told me that purple lining is due to certain varieties and not necessarily pollination, every pollinated fig I cut open , including capri figs, demonstrate this effect in Los Angeles. I need to study this in more depth!

Art, I think this last picture's dark circle is due to over-ripeness not a purple lining. here's how I see Purple linings... This one bellow is the latest Fig I discovered, Yellow Fig This one bellow is what several people are saying it might be Melanzana Calabrese This one bellow is Glendale Church Parking lot Capri... That looks a lot like an unkown I had that was IDed as a California brown turkey/black genoa. Definitely not a good fig in our area. How many Breba have you had so far? I haven't had one yet.... I'm getting jealous. They either drop or sit and do nothing. __________________ NJ z7a Wish list :

Hi kubota1, Are those brebas ? If so then not "Simple" Brownturkey. The neck would be longer and the bottom more flat. The leaves do not really match as well ... As for the taste, coming from a greenhouse... that is the risk ... I would give it a try outside, if you want ... and let her ripen the fig when she wants at her own schedule... My BT is still to show a sign of ripening in Zone7. I just saw that my Dalmatie tree1 will be the faster at showing ripe figs... As last year ! __________________ ------------------------ Climate from -25°C to + 35°C Only cold hardy figtrees can make it here

Art……I took a couple of unknown figs to Jon’s Fig Fiesta last year for ID. The fig experts in attendance determined one was indeed a Brown Turkey. The subject BT is a neighbors tree, planted in a lawn area, so plenty of regular water, and in full sun. The fruit is rather large, if allowed to fully ripen, it has a pleasing sweetness and nice berry taste. Definitely not the watery taste you describe. I’m just a beginner at this but; I would think maybe partial greenhouse vs. full sun may be the difference in sweetness or overall taste The downside to this fig is that the eye often tends to open early with severe fruit splitting. Almost like the fruit is exploding! I’m sure with less regular water this could be avoided. I would keep the tree; in fact have several cuttings going of this BT.
