Took my 1st ripe breba of 2015 this am. Several dozen to soon follow. New crop, on this bush already forming so looking forward to another steady harvest this coming summer and fall to accessorize my morning oatmeal! 20150429084313.jpg  20150429111419.jpg

Congratulations!  Where are you and why did you pick it so early?   :)   Figs don't have their full flavor until the white part of the inside is translucent.  Try letting it get softer and hang down more next time to see what you think.  You might have to protect it from critters  :)

Nice!  I never thought about getting figs this early but I guess the warm Arizona climate allows you to get figs most of the year.  I'm just hoping we are over our last frost here so that I can leave them outside :D

Does it get cold enough there for the figs to actually go dormant?

Sorry I didn't put all info in, was just a quick post. Location--Yuma, AZ--zone 10. Fig was fully drooped over and resting on the stem. Don't have my net enclosure for this bush out yet, if I had waited another day, Mocking birds would probably have found it.

This bush is one of the most common found in this area, along with Kadota, Conradia and black mission. It's a six year old (in the ground 6 years) Brown Turkey, referred to sometimes as a "improved" Brown Turkey, Or as our European forum members are always so quick to point out, "sorry, not a Brown Turkey".

Point of interest is that, for the 6 years I have had it, the earliest brebas are thicker rind, and not quite as flavorful as the later ones. The main crop figs, from early June to November are thin skinned and ripen to a soft jelly like mass. Another month I'll have Conradias and Kadotas and will try to remember to post. have fun all.  pops
