P.S. The name of this one has always seemed interesting too... roughly "August long" or "long of August" in English. But it sounds like something from a Douglas Adams novel (Long Doubt) or a lung's daught(er). OK, OK... I'm just goofing, I do know roughly how to pronounce French, and those aren't all that close. Just word play. But nonetheless, it is an interesting name. And you getting it on 24 July (24/7), maybe it should be Longue d'Juillet. Or even Longue Pendant Tout le Journee. Or even Longue 24 Heures sur 24. It is 7-24 or 24-7, after all! OK, enough goofing. Nice fig Dave. Mike

It is almost as large as the dollar and no doubt worth more than today's dollar.

Dave, What type of melon do you mean when you say "very nice melon flavor"? Mike

Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and flavor profile. My Longue D'Aout cuttings were part of the mother of all fungus gnat attacks last year, so that one is missing from my collection. I don't have any that big, but Flanders is showing signs of ripening and it's pretty big! I'll post photos and review soon on that one. Suzi

Those are brebas. The main crop of Longue D'Aout is slightly smaller and but solid and richly flavored. This is a productive and excellent fig to have in my opinion.

Dave, Did you notice a hint of crème in the flavor? It is said this is same as Melanzana Merdascola and this is what I get from mine.

Let me clarify the confusion. Melanzana Merd...... is the same as Longue D'Aout. I received my MM from Adriano years back and positively identified this fig as LdA. As a result of this, he changed the name of the cultivar on his website. The way I identified this fig was because MM was growing next to a Longue D'Aout tree I received from a good friend in Europe. To my astonishment, both trees, with respect to figs, leaves, growth habits, taste, etc. are exactly alike!
