Hello! Everyone,

This is the tissue culture Black Ischia. I got my small tree from KK in late April 2014. I planted it in the ground in early June 2014. Please let me know if this is really a true Back Ischia. Thank you.

Best,
Tam

Tam,
You will know once it produces figs ; )
Till then here 2 topics that wre started by TMC2009 and FMD about the Tissue Cultured Hirts' Blue Ischia, http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/is-the-jury-still-out-on-blue-ischia-6328251 or http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=6977932 . Good Luck.

Yeap. Tam, check the thread in the Pete's post.
It is quite long, get a cup of coffee before you start reading and do not get depressed when you get to the end.

Also, I suggest you put up a strong fence around your Ischia because if it's a real one, it may be the only one :)
And the second reason, that thing for me grows so fast that it will take over your lawn in no time at all!

Good luck with it! Please update in case you see it producing.

It could be and then it couldn't, Hirts admitted to me that the TC Blue Ischias were mixed up and at least one batch turned out to be something totally different. So the Black could be a mix up, who did the TC that you have? Usually every nursery gets the TC from the same supplier. Compare the leaf to UCD Black Ischia posted by JD. Your leaf sort of looks like mine which turned out to not be a BI. If it is not then blame the cloner/nursery not who you received it from.

Unless they tissue cultured out the reddish bracts, petioles and stems that the UCD BI displays on all new growth, that is not Black Ischia, Tam. It's a nice looking tree all the same, but the leaves look a lot like those from the green fig producing plant FMD shows in the thread Pete linked.

Tam,

My tree has not produced any figs yet. I hope it will but at the moment i cannot confirm or deny its true variety.

I got my tree from KK. I do not know where he got his tree from. My tree looks like your Blue Ischia which you bought from Hirt's. Maybe, KK got his tree from them also. Thanks very sharing.

Tam

Okay Tam, that explains it. I bought a second set from Hirts, a year and a half after the screwed up batch, the new (bought2) look like Ischia leaves. As soon as it stops raining, I will get a photo. One of these days all of us will get the real deal. As soon as I get one I will let you know and if I get enough, I will share. I tried UCD this year but they did not have enough. Good Luck.
