Saw a flat of these at the store today and I couldn't resist. The figs were boxed in Toronto and just said product of USA but no name of variety. I first thought they would be mission's but after cutting them open I'm not sure now. VERY nice flavour.. very rich figgy flavour. I was impressed! Any idea what variety they might be... being from the USA?? Tyler

They look like Black Mission if they weren't that sweet....then they are Black Jack Figs...... Black Jacks are bigger than missions.

Yes they are somewhat sweet Armando so looks like they are Black Mission. I have to say for a fig that doesn't get talked about too much on here these are really good! I was actually contemplating getting rid of my 2nd year BM that hasn't produced yet but not now. I can't wait to try some of the more popular ones given how these tasted!

Tyler, The Black Missions I know are the superb figs! Actually, one of the best I tried. The color is more reddish though. For some reason people are trying to get the “exotic” varieties thinking that corresponds to a better taste, most often this is not the case. Congratulation on finding them in Canada! They seem to be perfectly ripe.

Today in Madison WI I bought a pint box of figs for $3.00. It said it was brown turkey but they look like these above. The first few we ate were picked too green. When we got home I picked through them and found some slightly soft ones that were very nice. The ones in the other boxes with black mission labels were yellow with brown stripes and bigger than the dark ones. I think someone mixed up the boxes. Today was a day of turtle sundaes, figs, and kim chee. I am waiting the repercussions.

Hey Armando, maybe superb right off the tree dead ripe, but the 2 packages that I purchased from the store ranged from 4-6, mainly because they were at different ripeness stages.

I bought a small basket of figs from WF yesterday. $5, they had Black Mission, Brown Turkey, and Kadota (probably) from California. I asked the produce guy if it was by the pound or basket, he said basket but make sure and pile them up so I got my $ worth. So naturally I emptied a basket then piled it high with an assortment of the nicest ripe figs(mostly Black Mission). They are all good and might be the fig deal of the summer. :)
