Nichole, thanks for sharing.   I'm surprised it rised, raised? so well and evenly with the figs on top. .  That's good to know. What type of cake is the batter ?

So, is it a "dessert king" of "desert king" :P ?

It turned out good! Very dense, only a little sweet so if that's your thing you'll like it. Personally I might mix a little honey into the batter to sweeten it just a touch more, and maybe a little more greek yogurt to make it a touch more moist. But a lot of people loved it.

Put some cool whip on top, maybe a little vanilla ice cream on the side and you are in business.

I wondered if it was going to be moist enough. I personally don't like overly sweet desserts. More yogurt or a coconut oil (their suggestion as a sub).
A coarse sugar sprinkled on top might add a bit more sweetness or powdered sugar. Diced figs in the cake mix, raisins , maybe nuts...
Looks like a recipe I can "play" with.
Thanks for posting it!

Adding applesauce would sweeten a little and add moistness - 2 birds 1 stone. Might try that next time.
