This is one that Martin would approve of. It had it all. Nice and rich and very sweet.
It was kind of funny. My wife and I are making a journal of all the figs we eat this year. One of categories is a rating from 0-10. As soon as she tasted this fig she blurted out 10. It's hard to give a fig a 10 when I haven't tasted BM or Preto.

To be precise, Mario brought it from about ten miles south of Castel do Sangro in Molise. The town of Acciano is actually northeast of CDS.

Leon, Yes I will post them tomorrow. I seem to remember the leaves resembling my Sals Corleon and Sicilian Red.

I couldn't root these.  Maybe next year I'll get a second chance.  All the rest of Marius' and Bill's (Saxonfig) cuttings did fine for me.

My Acciano cuttings would not root at all either. Even after 5 mos.

Here's a few pictures of the leaves and a picture of one of my plants.

Also this plant was called Paradiso Nero in the past. Mario changed the name to Acciano.
So I have a tree from a couple years ago and I rooted a few cuttings this winter.

I had 3 cuttings each of Acciano and Salce, difficult to root for me, the few that were up potted died quickly. :(

Looks like I'm not the only one who had trouble with Acciano. I got leaves to grow but no roots. It eventually dried up. Must be a tough rooter in general.
Salce rooted good though.

Out of my four, only two rooted. The first one fell victim to sudden death for no apparent reason, no gnats and not over or underwatered. The second one has made it past the cup and is now in the 32oz yogurt container. Hopefully everything goes well. It should, but things happen. 2 weeks ago I had a Black Madeira get decappitated and partially crushed by airborne patio furniture, those sudden Colorado wind gusts can come from nowhere sometimes. Luckily a lower node has started growing on the poor girl, the lost growth was so nice, it was the first plant I went to look at when I got home from work each evening.

There are many different Paradisos and probably some different Paradiso Neros.  I have rooted some of them.

How was the skin on yours. I got to taste this variety last year on a young plant and the skin was pretty tough. I chalked it up to immaturity. I am glad to hear your report and look forward to trying this variety again.

Did you get cuttings from Mario of his unknown Molise black?

The skin was not tough at all. It was perfect.
No I did not get his Unknown Molise black. I have Acciano, Troiano Calabrese, and Salce.

Don't give up! I am glad to see this thread. I thought I was the only one having difficulty rooting Acciano. Salce and Troiano Calabrese (TC) rooted for me and some of both survived the notably cold winter. TC was full of brebas, but they all dropped in the cold, wet spring. Last year's figs were good, though, even from  first producing year tree. However, I must say that your Acciano, Art, looks just way too tempting not to have. Struggle on, everyone!

Thanks for answering my question. I spelled your tag right before but the computer changed it. For me I was lucky enough to get Salce, acciano, Troiano calabrese, unknown Molise black, and Mario unknown yellow(probably dottato ) to root. I am glad that the taste was so good for you andlook forward to tasting this variety again.

Ditto....0 for 3 of Acciano, but all 3 of my Salce rooted and are doing fine thankfully.  Looking forward to the Acciano challenge next year. : )

Geeesh, after reading the previous posts, I feel most fortunate or lucky to get one out of three of my Acciano to root.   One was a no root and think the gnats got the other.    My Acciano cuttings were courtesy of F4F member Bill…..“Saxonfig”.    It has two nice branches forming, looks like it was fast to root but, hasn't quite taken off yet.   As evidenced in photo below, my surviving Acciano is nowhere near as vigorous in growth as his class mates of 2014.    Assuming it makes it to graduation, I’m looking forward to sampling next year.

This was one that i got to root and had growth then just died suddenly for no reason. I was excited because I had about 200 cutting that I was working with and I failed at most. I'm sure its grower error so Next year I am taking it slower and will focus on just a few. Sort of hard to do on this site because they all look so good. :).

I have Acciano but it is a young plant. However, of the few photos of the fig and the leaves I have seen, it resembles my Aldo's fig. I wish more photos of this fig could be posted to make a definite opinion.

I have had a bit of success, with troubled cutting by just putting them in a cup of water and waiting for roots to appear, I had 3 cuttings take by this method this year that I just couldn't propagate normally, smith cutting was 1 I struggled with.

Real nice Art, I one real small Acciano that I am babying to get it to grow. I am about to repot it for stimulation, different mixture that drains better. Is post #16 the size of your tree?
