Nicely organized! Taste report? I am mainly interested in hearing what you have to say about the Hardy Hartford, compared to the other similar hardy dark figs (is it a Mt Etna type as well, like Hardy Chicago, Sal's Gene, Takoma Violet, etc?). Your's is the first report to include it this year that I have seen, and I was wondering if it is worth pursuing as I have Hardy Chicago, Sal's Gene and MBvs growing so far. __________________ Ed Zone 6A - Southwest PA --------------------------- Short wish list: CDDG, LSU Red, Dark Greek (Navid), Col Littman's Black Cross. And any cold hardy early fig.

I know it is a lot of work but is it possible to line up in order of taste. Of course then you would have to suffer through eating them all. Love the apples and pears. I am hoping next year to have more pears than the deer and crows can eat. I love me some pears. Thanks for sharing and great layout for some great pictures __________________ goss North Ga. zone 7

I wanted to grow Asian pears for sometimes cause i don't find them consistently in the groceries. do you grow them in pots? The Acciano looks very nice. __________________ Eli ,Israel ,Zone 10? Thanks for kind words folks, Ed, Greg, Hardy Hartford is impressing me so far. NewnanDawg liked it here a couple days ago, maybe he will comment as well. Is it different enough than those other fine figs if you are short on space? I will try to focus a little more over the next week or so on that comparison and post it. I might put Gino’s Black and Unk Owensboro in that mix as well. Goss, drive up for some pears These are from my Ellijay trees, I have quite a bunch. The young trees here not producing yet. I have some other cultivars not quite ripe yet . I only picked ½ my Korean Giant, I should have left them on a while longer Picking pears is tricky sometimes most Euro’s don’t ripen on tree well need picked while firm or they root from inside. Asians seem to be better ripened on the tree. Elin, the pears are all in ground, all these figs are potted but most have destiny with mother earth next spring. I actually just realized I must have missed a row, almost certain I had Hollier and Gino’s black that were ripe today. __________________ Phil N.GA. Oh well when a man has that many figs and other fruits something is bound to fall thru the cracks. I will be going to Ellijay probably this weekend sometime got to mow mom's grass. If I have time will let you know. __________________ goss North Ga. zone 7

And on 8-22-14 the Blessings continue. I started trying to just display 1 of each cultivar but I always seem to miss a couple. It's like fig voodoo I looked, took pictures upon review it seems figs had appeared! Had a couple others ripe today but had already shown couple times so moved in a couple new for the season for me.

As far as the ?s on Hardy Hartford. It stands pretty well. Has more flavor to me than MBVS and Sal's Gene Strain so far pretty close to Unk Owensboro and Chicago Hardy, Gino's Black . Still a step or 2 behind Takoma Violet and Kesariani in my book. Not sure if others consider Dark Portuguese in that group as it tastes a little different to me. It's hard to get them all at peak on same day. Today I didn't have a Gino's to even line up.

Thanks for sharing this strudledog, looks great! Can I ask, do you see any differences in Acciano and Sal's C? There has been some talk of similarities of these two figs. Do you think they are the same(fruit and leaves)? I can see that at least at this time the Sal's C was much bigger, but that could be a timing thing. __________________ Calvin Littleton,CO z5/6 Wants List: For everyone to clean-up after themselves and co-exist peacefully. Calvin, I will look at the leaves, but the looks of the fruit not on mine, I could not see them at all as the same, so much so that I have not really even thought of comparing the taste of the 2. __________________ Phil N.GA.
