Here's another great fig. Pure berry jam. My wife and I couldn't put our finger on what type of berry. We just know it's one of our favorites. Another fig that held up to our bad weather.
I gave it an 8 and my wife liked it so much she gave it a 10.

It reminds me a Stella and Dalmatie.

Greenfig, Yes I have a few Stella figs that are supposed to ripen soon.

@Green fig, I think you have a good point there as Vasilika Sika does resemble Stella. I have Vasilika, Stella
and White Greek. I will post pic's likely tomorrow on these 3. I will start a different thread.

Thanks for the pictures, Art. I really like the unknown Italian ( from the adjoining thread) from Pittsburgh ( maybe the greatest city...definitely the greatest pro football team). Is there more of a back story behind it? It seems like a large fig, is it larger than the LW?

Bill, It's about the same size as LW. If you do a search for Mittica White, you'll find more info on it.
It's one of my better white figs.

This is a must have fig! Weather you get Vasilika Sika, Stella, or Staten Island Bomb. You should have one in your collection. Excellent tasting and a big fig to boot. To me it tastes very similar to a red raspberry.

Thanks for sharing your experience Art!   I agree that these are a beautiful set of figs!

But I have had difficulty growing this variety in a container.  In-ground it grows vigorously and great producer.  For me in a container the plant stays thin and just produces a few figs.  Do you have a secret for growing this variety in containers?

Mine is in a 20 gal pot. I'd also like to put it in ground. Does your plant have the long fingered leaves?

I only had 3 fruit this year on mine but they were great.  I have them from both Rafed and Bass (fruit came from grafted cutting from Rafed, I won it in the 2013 Buperbowl contest, I believe).  I think this should be somehow identified as Belleclare's Vasilika Sika or some such thing since it seems to be different from what folks in Greece (like Andreas) call Vasilika Sika.  Vasile introduced what folks there call Vasilika Sika and some of us have that strain as well.  What can be done to reduce the confusion?

That sounds good, Harvey. Maybe attach the Belleclare to it. The only thing about this fig is I think it is the same as Stella.

Art, yes it has long fingered leaves.  Here are photos of my Stella.  

I have a 7yr old in-ground permanently. last year produced a ton of huge delicious figs but it got frozen down to 1' and this year has very vigorous growth but little fruit and I don't think will ripen.

This one is 5 yrs old , in ground (but dug up and brought in for winter)  I think it will ripen these figs in Oct.

The one below is 3yrs old in 7 gal container (Looks like need to get bigger containers).  Such huge difference in growth and vitality.  It had 4 figs but I accidently knocked one off so 3 left;

Vasile (Herman) has made the argument for some time that Belleclare's Vasilika Sika is the same as Stella and Dalmatie.  Excellent fig but probably a bad name.  I'm tempted to rename mine to avoid confusion but might create more confusion in doing so.  There needs to be some consensus on this before making the name change, IMO, and that seems nearly impossible in the fig community! ;)

There are many photos claiming to be Vasilika Sika on this forum.   They look very similar to Stella/Dalmatie with some notes that say VS ripens earlier and is more vigorous.
Does anyone have photos of a true Vasilika Sika?

You nailed it Harvey, Hoyle's Rules For Naming Figs. Personally I think there should be RULES for naming unknowns, when they can be permanently given names when not matched to another variety in a given time, synonym named figs should be checked out genetically.... have I bored enough of you yet????

I don't remember if Herman2 (Vasile) has posted photos of his before or not and can't find any right now.  But in post 12 at http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=6528866 he says that Tam's "Green Greek" is identical to his Vasilika Sika which was obtained directly from Greece.  Adreas posted later in the thread but did not confirm or deny the identity.

Waynea, I agree with you that it would be nice to have an agreed to naming convention that everyone follows for unknowns.  But given the gazillion fig varieties and gazillion people that name figs according to a story, their beautiful wives, or worse yet black fig or green fig in every language.  If the fig grows well for you and you like it then that is really what counts.
